UK TV Heads up – w/c 6th November

Excellent week coming up on the box.

More details nearer the time but we’ve got ‘633 Squadron’, the totally superb ‘Always’ and a film about a team of WW2 female fighter pilots wreaking havoc on the Third Reich (Probably without a broken fingernail between them).

The latter was supposed to be a pilot for a TV series. I think we had a lucky escape.

may I also draw your attention to ’49th Parallel’ on Tuesday 8th, Channel 4 at 13.10 hrs. This is essentially a story about a U-boat crew escaping across Canada after they are sunk off the coast. If I remember correctly (and it’s ages since I’ve seen it) they are attacked by an aircraft which starts off as a Maryland on the run in, changes into a Hudson as it bombs, and climbs away as a DC-3! It was made in 1941, and I daresay they thought nobody would notice.

I have to agree, but would I be being cynical to suggest that she represents a triumphant tribute to the cosmetic surgeon’s art?

And Friday 4th!

Channel 5 11:45pm

Desert Thunder.

“Gung ho action thriller pits retired flyboy Daniel Baldwin and a Dirty Dozen style squadron against a top secret Iraqui chemical weapons plant….. but the flying sequences are surprisingly effective.”

Sorry to disappoint everyone but I’ve seen ‘The Secret War of Jackies Girls’ and it is totally appalling, a C rated TV movie, a sort of war time ‘Charlies Angels’ (The 70’s version)but without Jaclyn Smith. If I remember correctly it features a Bell 47 without the plexiglass, I’m pretty sure there is a Lockheed Lodestar in it as well.

PS. There are also a couple of short Battle of Britain film clips.

It gets better and better. Got to see it!

Wonder if any of them lose articles of clothing whilst in combat. Or wrestle German guards at the jelly factory?

Moggy

I assume that these be the same kind of WW2 helicopter as used in Where Eagles dare?

Luckily I am getting Sky+ installed this afternoon, so I should be able to record these…

FYI Disco Wings have now put a digital block on recording onto DVD 🙁 , I was able to record when I first got the DVD-R, I would set it to record the interesting stuff on it’s 1 or 2 am slot for future viewing, and then about a month ago it just stopped working. I tried it manually and found that it is copy barred.
