Ukrainian fighter replacement

I did some googling and found this Wikipedia article about the Ukranian Air Force. A quote from the article that I find interesting:

Ukraine is planning to put more advanced jet aircraft into service in upcoming years. Even upgraded aircraft will be able to fly no longer than up to the year 2015. This means that from approximately 2012, Ukraine will have to either take bold steps to create a new combat aircraft or purchase a large number of existing combat aircraft.

As most people know Ukraine is considering joining NATO. Whether this will happen or not is a political topic which doesn´t really belong here on this forum. Anyway, where will Ukraine go shopping new fighters? Will they turn to the West or stick with Russian designs? Which fighter would suit the needs of Ukraine?
