I have got to know a family over the last month or so who I think are the worlds most overprotective and pushy parents ever see what you think to this and the person In question is 20 yes 20 and they are
Driven to and from work
Not allowed out at all after 8pm
Bed at 10pm
Have to give all wages to their mum and dad
Banned from having any alcohol at all
Banned from doing anything without calling home first.
I ain’t joking last night about 11.15pm they phoned the police and reported my M8 an 18 year old for “being out late without parental supervision”
**** sake I thought I heard it all but last night puts the cherry on the cake.

Actually folks aren’t strict at all and I can do whatever I want, but as long as I’m living home, and can go to college, I see no reason why I should object to the “house-rules”. Otherwise, I have to work and find my own appartement which I find a fair deal. If I start to work and still stay at home, I will have to give a percentage of my wage.
Actually I’m far too lazy to be a rebel :p hence I never experienced these problems. I just lay in the sofa, and say “yes, mum”, “no prop.”.
Anyway, this is my last post for this week. I’m on a small trip to the Verdon (southern France). When I get back I’ll be 20 myself so lets hope that I never experience the same problems as your mate.
Au revoir et à bientot.

Your friend is either 18 or 20 years old (can’t work it out from your first post, but it doesn’t matter). Your friend is old enough to vote, to give blood, to fight and die for his country, to be legally charged for any crimes that he commits – and all without his parents consent.
It is a big leap to leave the family home – no matter what anyone says; don’t you ever think it isn’t. It is secure, there are the people that you love around you, you are safe. Unfortunately your friend will have little or no money since that goes straight to the parents – another way of keeping him there.
Your friend must go and see his doctor, (if he is church-going) his local padre (despite my own feelings about organised religion they are still a help in situations like this), or someone from social services and ask for help. You go with him if necessary, to back him up and give him support – like a good and proper friend should. He needs help and not redicule or jokes (so don’t show him this forum), and he’ll need it for sometime after the break has taken place too.
A question that needs to be asked is why are his parents like this? Have they had someone walk out on them and they fear that their offspring would go and never return, maybe? Maybe they need help too – but that is for them and not you to suggest.
How did they threaten you – a visit from the police (if the threat warrents it) might shake them up enough to see the light; but might just as likely tip them over the edge too.
Get all his friends together and see if you can be his support group – when he has a problem then he can call on any of you; even if that means offering him somewhere to stay until he gets himself together.
Good luck – I don’t envy you – if you help him.

Flood I see the point you are making however the person is to afraid to walk out.

They are older than 18 – they can leave anytime they like – but the actual wrench might be more than they can manage, though.
If you speak to anybody you will be told that it is none of your concern – the householder can impose any sensible rules on anyone living under their roof. The people concernd have to make that effort themselves.
Sorry.

Are they Mormons or right wing Presbyterians ? Lutherians perhaps ?
Whatever….? They need to get out more often…. Doh, I forgot they’re not allowed !
Has the child developed any sort of psycho-kinetic powers enabling the burning down of schools at a moment’s thought ?

No read the first post I am concerned about the situation I have found.
It looks like exploitation or whatever but something is very seriously wrong here and I was looking for constructive advice.

Agreed mate, a bit OTT, but you cant blame the parents really can ya?
When they read in papers about kids as young as 11 or 12 getting pregnant, smoking, drinking, being drug addicts, and totally out of control its bound to make em a bit wary for their own kids.
According to the law schools and parents cant discipline em anymore, and the little darlings know that, so they misbehave knowing they wont have to face any consequences.
Its a sad fact of life that the so called politically correct do-gooders are turning our country into a state of anarchy.
