I had a very unexpected flight today:-
In the back of a Med-evac Bo105 to the JR hospital in Oxford !! 🙁
I was out dog walking and got stung by dozens of wasps, ended up with anaphalactic shock and had to 999 on my mobile.Spend a very dodgy hour being given doses of adrenaline and other intraveanous stuff, went a horrilble blotchy lumpy red all over and spend about 8 hours in hospital.
But I’m home as nothing ever happened now (thankfully) 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
So you never know what will happen to you in a day.

Sorry to hear of your experience Philo.
I hate wasps. Nasty little bleeders. I turn into a big girlie and run away when they come anywhere near me.

What you went through has got to be my worst nightmare.
Being very allergic to Wasp and Bee stings myself I can understand your predicament. Anaphylaxis is an extremely dangerous condition , one that very nearly done for me some time ago.
Wasps have absolutely NO use on this planet whatsover 😮 , as for people saying “Bees wont sting you because they die after “, Codswallop!, the thing is the bee does not know it will die so they have no qualms about who they stick their sting in :p
Glad you are Ok know., give the dog a pat.

Ouch, that sounds nasty. I got stung on my finger today by a bee, my finger was swollen for about an hour and went completely numb. Being stung by dozens of wasps but have been awful. Hope you’re ok now.

One thing to remember is that although you may have been stung before with no ill effects, the more often it happens the more chance there is of having an adverse reaction (warning signs are nausea and headache). Something to bear in mind when at events with wasp infested bins…
Glad to hear that all is ok!

While you were being carted off for your free flight, who looked after your dog?
By: Arabella-Cox - 14th July 2004 at 13:03
Philo, your post brings back some painful memories here. I know what you mean, and it’s why I hate wasps to this day. But I’m glad to hear the Air Ambulance got to you quickly, and that you’re back on the mend. Much-maligned as our health service is, they still manage to work wonders, in this case helping out one of our most respected ‘family’ members…

Sounds like a pretty scary situation, did the dog get a ride too?
By: Arm Waver - 14th July 2004 at 11:41
I quite agree with archieraf… a terrifying situation indeed. Glad you pulled throught it ok though.

Philo, what a terrifying situation to have found yourself in, glad to hear that you are ok again. A similar thing happened to my mother several years ago, but it was bees and not wasps. She now carries an epi-pen (I think that’s the name) around with her all the time. Basically if she ever gets stung again she has to get the pen out and administer the medication in it to herself and then of course seek immediate medical assistance. I believe the pen contains some sort of adrenalin and therefore buys some extra time between being stung and getting help. Might be worth asking your doc about one? Prior to this episode she had been stung plenty by bees (my dad kept hives in the garden) with no apparent effect.

I honestly thought at one stage that I would not be rescued.
But my dog (Bertie)sat by me and licked my face.
Glad to hear you’re okay now.
Animals know best don’t they !!
When I had an ep-seizure while in my sleep, Jake, my Fox Terrier, alerted my partner by running up and down the bed.
Take care,
Chris

Bloody hell! (Ooops, did I just break a forum rule?)
Glad you’re o.k., but what an extraordinary, and very frightening, experience it must have been. And thank goodness you had your mobile with you.
Had the same thing befallen me, you can bet mine would be in the drawer at home and there could have been a very different outcome.
Don’t be tempted to trade it in when it becomes out-dated, put it in a frame and hang it on your wall!
Best wishes,
Al
