Unflown planes

Boeing 787 was rolled out on 8th of July, 2007. It was supposed to fly on 27th of August, 2007.

It has not flown.

Boeing 787 is supposed to be delayed by half a year. Once upon a time, Airbus 380 was supposed to be delayed by half a year, too. Then it was delayed again, by a year that time… but eventually A380 did enter service.

Dornier 728 was rolled out on 21st of March, 2002. It had 150 or so orders from respectable airlines like Lufthansa, and was supposed to fly and enter service.

It has not flown.

When would Boeing 787 fly? And would Boeing 787 fly, ever?

And there I was wondering if this thread had anything to do with the rumour going around the industry that the first prototype 787 is now destine never to fly…….. the loss of config control is too much trouble to sort out, so the second aircraft will take its place in the test flying and the first prototype will probably be used in a fuel tank fire integrity cert test.

If its true I wonder how this news will be “tarted up” by Boeing program.

It was never built.

Two prototypes were partly built. Neither of them was rolled out. But although the 787 prototype has been rolled out, its inability to take flight raises a question of just how much of a plane it was in the first place

I’m not sure you can delay something that was never built in the first place….

It had 122 orders. Boeing must have promised some dates for roll-out, first flight, customer delivery. Those promises Boeing did not keep.

Boeing company has invested milliards in the development of 2707, too. It has not flown. Although, unlike 787, 2707 has not been rolled out, either.
Was 2707 delayed, too?

As discussed before…the 2707 was cancelled following the government’s refusal to back it (unlike what happened with the Concorde and Tu-144) for cost and environmental resons.

It was never built.

Odd comparison. Dornier 728 didn’t fly because there were technical problems but because the company went bankrupt before. A sad day for German industry and quite sad also that neither the government, nor the banks, nor Airbus or EADS did anything to rescue it. It would have saved one regional jet manufacturer in Europe and not leave the market to the Russians, Chinese, Brazilians and Canadians.
By the way: Suchoi is producing the Dornier 728, but calls it the Suchoi SuperJet. Concept is a 1to1 copy.

That is a rather odd question asked… if the 787 will ever fly or not. You cannot really compare a Dornier project to a Boeing one, the 787 is a trump card for Boeing now so as far as they are concerned, there is no turning back.

RE 787

Like all new and untested airliners, there are always delays, but the 787 will fly, there is no way it will never fly
