Unidentified aircraft

Ok people im not talking UFOs (but if you have got any good pics theyll be welcome for me). I’d just like to know if anyone here has any pic of planes that they don’t recognise and can’t identify or just look “strange”. It’d be nice to see something a little bit different to the multitude of Sukhoi variants, crashing F16s, the Indians and Pakistanis flaming each other and other repetitive posts. Here my fav mystery pic. For those of you who know what it is, I do to, it’ll just be interesting to see what those who don’t know think about it 😀

Had a Chinook fly at very low level over me today on a duel carriage way; scared the living bejasus out of the work-experience clone in the passenger seat! Suppose it had to be at atleast 200ft but I swear I could feel its approach over the sound of the radio and engine noise.
Has anyone been surprised by a low level historic that they weren’t expecting?

Had a similar experience on the A303 near Boscombe coming over the brow of the hill to be confronted by a Chinook at 200ft! Also this year on the M3 being over taken by a CH-53 at about 500ft. That one did drown out the radio! On the historic front nearly cr**ed myself at Lee On Solent during seawings 2000, Canberra did a over shoot at the coast end very, very low over the road, could not see it coming due to houses! 😮

Thanks Robbelc,

I suspect the AN 22 is the one….have binoculars handy but it tends to hide above cloud every time it has been heard/felt !!

Unless it was the An22, larger than the 12 but with twin tail. These along with the C130 are pretty much the only high wing 4 props flying now. If it was the An22 you can still hear it about a week afterwards, those contra rotating props make heli of a rackett 😀 . G6hyf I would guess thats what you have heard, it sounds like nothing else. I think the An22 has been doing a few Manchester-Moscow flights which would fit with your area?

Interesting ref the Antonov……..recently (last few weeks, including one day last week) overflying at height just North of Gunby in East Lincolnshire and heading East to coast out we have had a large sounding turboprop with an engine note that I am not familiar with….

It is a very deep slow resonance that can be almost felt and heard for miles …nothing like any Hercules type for instance.

I have not yet managed to sight the aircraft…..!!

RE. Uniddentified Aircraft

Tks ROBBLC,

Could be!! But I’m feel that it had a round rear fuselarge and no ramp but I could be wrong.. I had not thought of the AN-12 but to me it also looked and sounded heavier.. Time will tell !!!

Nice pic by the way!!..

Thanks again

Sounds like a An-12 to me. I think one has been operating out of East Midlands which would add up if it was europe bound. Did it look like this?http://www.farnboroughairport.biz/an12.jpg
