I see what you’re saying and wasn’t in anyway taking offense, its just that not all posts will be interesting, some are just the author expressing an opinion to a group he/she may think of as their friends that was never meant to be up for discussion, a sort of “guess what happened to me this morning”. This is surely one of the primary reasons for having a general discussion forum so these type of posts don’t clutter up the special interest forums.

Scooter, debate does mean discussion and the putting forward of views contrary to the original post, that’s what a discussion forum is. Now, if you want to post a topic, let’s say ‘Is George Bush a good leader’ you can expect to get quite a healthy debate, whether you’ll get many to say he is is a different matter.

It’s like everyone says, not all topics are going to be interesting to all people. Anyway, the GD forum can’t be doing too bad as it has reached it’s 1000th topic.

My post mentioned your “hello” thread and another, but wasn’t intended to criticise you or any other member of the forum.

My point was that the subject was not likely to engender solid discussion across the forum. “Hello” certainly showed that the forum is a friendly place to be, sure, but it was hardly likely to be the sort of post you would open up to see what other members’ points of views were – you just knew it was going to be a long list of return greetings, and not particularly interesting.

It’s funny, but this thread is becoming interesting. Why? Because it is one where everybody can have an opinion without having intimate knowledge of the subject. It affects us all and some of us have differing views to others. The point was made that we are, perhaps, becoming overly focussed on the impending actions in the Middle East. When and if that occurs, then yes, we’ll have plenty to discuss, but with the never-ending news reports on terrorism generally, I’m even becoming very bored with that subject.

Another point was made that members have placed topics on the forum which they thought were winners, only to see them hijacked or shot down in two or three replies. I can only agree. I have tried a number of subjects which I thought would have some value in them, only to see them head off in an opposite direction after one or two members digressed in their posts. Now, before I put a post on, I think it through to see if it really will be of interest to many others, rather than just a few.

Like a few people have already said, not all topics apeal to every person.

For instance, I used to use AFM and Flypast quite a bit but now I hardly use or visit either because most of the current topics interest me, but ALW on the other hand, I think is absoulutely buzzing with interesting topics at the moment as in the GD forum.

Hey gang i take all your views onboard especially the predictable reply “what u find uninteresting may be interesting to others” i was waiting for that one, but i just think forum has lost its edge, could well be we are all too blame..nothin like passin the buck:7 but with all this talk of war on terror i.e Iraq & N.Korea i believe it is havin an adverse affect on people world over..magic of the internet i guess,

i must admit that in my foirst 6 months on here i was really posting a lot (not big number by posts) then made the msitake of taking maths as so for a year i was overworked. this last 6 months or so i’ve been nosing but have still been busy – have been meaning to get back into the flypast forum but too busy

I wouldnt say lost its edge…the thing that strikes me most about these four Forums is that the life of a thread depends on the first one or two replies.

You can totally kill a thread with one reply even though the guy that posted the original script thought he was on a winner !. I’ve put out a few that I thought would last sometime only to have them cut off in their prime by a few well chosen words in a reply….but hey, thats whats makes it interesting.

It is unfair to say there are no interested threads on teh forum, there are a great number of threads that are interesting but to different people.

If it is a lack of topics that dont interest you then how about you start some that are.

Besides if and when the new Iraq war starts, im sure they will be plenty to talk about.

In my defense and that of the Hello post all i said was “hello”, a simple broadcast to the forum that i had arrived, nothing trite about it.

What it does show is that the forum is made up of a lot of very friendly people.

I agree with Adonis. I have found that I now only bother to open the forum about once a week and generally have nothing to contribute because the topics are of no interest to me.

I’ve tried to start a few topics off, some serious, some light hearted, but they seem to fizzle out after only a few days. The funny thing is, many of the posts which last for many days or weeks are on the most trite subjects, like “What’s the fastest you’ve been” or “Hello”.

I must be missing something….

Its not that the threads are heated or not but i have seen that the activity of the forum has dropped significantly, esp on the Airforce monthy forum….There have been good and bad threads and IMHO more BAD…it could just be a lack of interest from everybody involved or down to new entrants finding their feet in their new surroundings, something for the Webmaster maybe to look at??

BTW Geforce i hadn’t thought about switchin the computer off and walkin away :7 ….next time i’ll try my hand at being a raving alcoholic like you said yeah.

The problem isn’t the supposingly uninteresting post but (for me) I didn’t feel like entering a discussion on the general forum because I didn’t want to get into a real heated debat, which I love but don’t have the time for anymore, the spell on the working class…….

I dont think theres been a lack of interesting threads. I think theres been a lack of interesting responces. Theres too many “readers” on this forum who just throw in pithy, sarcastic posts as though this were some kind of entertainment. If you want to see more interesting threads, respond to some interesting threads and I think youll find conversation picks up again.
