United Airlines Experiences?

Well, for the second time in my life I am flying an airline which is not British! The only airline I have flown before is Cyprus Airways and now I’m booked up to fly with United Airlines on Tuesday 19th November.

I’ve been to http://www.carsurvey.org/air and the reviews here are not too good.

On the Tuesday I’ll be flying on United Airlines flight UA905 from London Heathrow (T3) at 13:20 to John F Kennedy, New York. The aircraft is a 777-200 outbound which I understand has personal TV sets for all, but the seating configuration in economy is 2-5-2 so the chances of me getting a window seat are just about ZILCH!

I am returning home just 5 nights later on UA976 at 08:30hrs, arriving at Heathrow just after 20:30hrs the same day. The only downside is the fact that we are flying on a 767-300(!) I really like the 763, but the guy who we booked the break with said the aircraft coming back is a bit basic and won’t have the more modern and advanced features.

I’m just wanting to ask any of you what to expect. I’ve NEVER flown long haul with a scheduled airline – is that sad??! I’ve only ever done the charter airlines and they offer just about nothing to economy class passengers and have flown British Airways and as I said above, Cyprus Airways but only on short haul routes.

I would appreciate any information or links to sites which explain the features on United 777s or even the facilities at Heathrow’s Terminal 3. I’ve only flown once out of Heathrow, back in February of this year and that was terminal 1.

Thanks..

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-11-02 AT 07:44 PM (GMT)]The 767-300 also does some of the transatlantic flights and in some cases, the 747.

Selsport – are you getting your BMI flight quite cheap or even for free? I don’t mean to sound cheeky/nosey, but I noticed that United are offering very low prices on flights to Heathrow from other UK airports. In some cases, the flights are free.

RE: United Airlines Experiences?

I fly with them at the end of Feb 03. Code share Edin-Heathrow with British Midland & United Heathrow to Newark, New York. Do they still fly the 777 on this route? to be honest I dont care just want to see what New York has to offer before I head to SA to stay.

RE: United Airlines Experiences?

T5,

I’m in the US right now (california).
I flew as usual for years Flight UA961 on Nov First.
We flew an 777-200ER (N227UA)From Cdg – SFO.
It was an uneventful flight. I have to say that I have never experience anything bad with UA.

There service is good and much better than waht I have experienced with DL, AF , BA or KL.

I have had the misfortune of travelling UAL maybe 7 or 8 times. The service was pretty slack, The 777 from Frankfurt to Washington Dulles was an ok trip, But the attitude and service was shocking, T5 this flight is considerd Medium Haul, You will need to fly a little farther, nonstop for it to be Longhaul, For mine a better choice would have been Delta, I am just looking at there website now, For a near bankrupt company, they must have some capital somewhere if they can afford to give away BMW X5s, You will be at Heathrow T3, and the lounge is available to Star Alliance and Business and First class Customers only, it’s called the REd Carpet Club, Have fun in NYC, it’s a great place.

they’re not too bad, as far as i can remember… only flown them once, 5 years ago, SFO-EWR. Their website has quite good info on their planes, though.
