United Airlines orders 150 737NG/MAX

Announced at Farnborough:

100 737MAX and 50 NGs.

Here’s the Boeing news release…

Since United currently operates 320s, this might be significant that they didn’t order 320 NEOs.

Not at all surprised really by UA’s decision to buying Boeings…as they have been the North American launch customer for many of Boeing’s aircraft fleet from the 767-200/400ER, 777-200, 787, and they will also now become the launch customer for the new 737 MAX 9.

Thanks for posting that link MSR.

The number that surprised me was that CFM has outsold PW 2 to 1, even having slightly won the competition on the NEO.

For all the blather about the GTF that PW has been spouting for the last 5 years one would have thought that they had the market cornered.

kinda surprising, one would think that with 150ish A319/320’s already in the fleet AND a need to continue to play the manufacturers against each other that UAL would have ordered some more ‘busses. Big win for Boeing IMO.

This order was a toss-up. Remember that United now also contains Continental and they have a large fleet of 737s with (I believe) new ones still on order.
