Can any of you chaps tell me what Carrier carried the Deck Number ‘C’?

…my concern regarding the two cranes shown aft of the main superstructure was based purely on not being able to see the things on the pictures I had looked at.
That initial impression gave me pause as well, but I suspect we both spotted the same thing. It appears that the cranes are actually present and have merely been stowed out of the way.

Many thanks guys, your interest and help is greatly appreciated. Regarding the photo of what seems to be HMS Implacable; my concern regarding the two cranes shown aft of the main superstructure was based purely on not being able to see the things on the pictures I had looked at. Regarding the second image, my thanks to those who gave the ship a name.
Cheers

……..and the response was:
The photo in post #7 of the linked thread shows HMS IMPLACABLE – definitely one of the last pair, as there were numerous differences from the first three and INDOMITABLE, and Deck Letter C therefore IMPLACABLE.
The photo in post #10 of that thread shows HMS OCEAN – only Colossus class ship with US SM-1 radar above the bridge.

Yep, Colossus class.
There may be ways to identify individual ships within a class but that would require someone with that expertise…

Can’t get my tablet to copy and paste the ***##@! link, but Wikepedia’s heading image shows the cranes quite clearly, no date though.
I think that second photo looks like a ‘Colossus’ class vessel. Beyond that I cannot go.

I took the liberty of posting this question on a nautical forum I also frequent

Hi All,
Thanks for all the replies, I have attached a further image this time taken from the Port side. I am in general in agreement with Jack and Mike. However I have one slight problem the two photographs I have clearly show two cranes aft of the main superstructure, one on either side.
I am certain the pictures would have been taken post-war; I have a reasonable number of aerial photographs in my collection, mainly taken over Belfast. A number of these show the parliament Building returned to its pre-war white, if I can establish when that happened it will give me more of an idea as to when the carrier images were taken.
Sorry folks, I did not really look at this one, it is clearly a different ship. That said the cranes comment still applies to the first picture. Regarding the second picture I have yet to identify it!

Here’s Implacable
http://www.worldnavalships.com/implacable_class.htm
Letter ‘C’ clearly visible in one image.
Tend towards Jack Deth’s opinion too. To my untutored eye Indomitable, as an Illustrious class vessel, has a slightly less expansive forward superstructure.

I “Googled” all of Consul’s list and to my eye, HMS Implacable is an excellent match for the picture Wessex Fan provided …

Sorry chaps, I should have attached a picture in the first place, it was taken by an uncle in I believe Belfast Louth!

So…if you tell us what types are on the deck that would help with identifying which one you are interested in.
With a nod at your moniker I’m guessing Centaur…

Just checked sources in particular “Squadrons of the FAA”:
Deck letter C was used by the following Royal Navy carriers:
HMS Colossus (1945)
HMS Indomitable (1946)
HMS Implacable (1948 – 51)
HMS Centaur (1954 – 67)

Centaur? Colossus? Whose Navy are we talking about anyway? 🙂

HMS Centuar?

IIRC it was H.M.S. Implacable that was allocated deck code C.
