They had no moral qualms about taking the oath to Hitler, and the German Army was the largest single contributor to the atrocities committed in Eastern Europe and Russia. They all became anti-Hitler after they lost – if they’d won would there be people wearing the uniforms of the Allies at these events? I doubt it.

you could say the same for the Soviet army, and Stalins crownies, those who dress as them, Stalin sent many more to the death camps, and persicuted his own people much more than horrible adolf ever did, then you got the Japanese re-enactors, you could say the same, .. Vietnam re-enactors, and the attrocities in Vietnam, more ordnance dropped on Vietnam than the 2 world wars together, and people are still dying from bombs and mines, left by the fighting forces, i have even seen Croatian re-enactors at a show, portraying croats from the bosnian war, ( they too commited atrocites,)
and also I have seen the Isreali re-enactors portraying isreali troops from the 1967 war,and after, especailly those with military vehicles, from that period.
and Isreal has broken more international laws than any other country regarding stealing land, etc, and Mossad kidnappings than any other country i am aware of,and control of Palestine, yet no one blinks a eye at any of these other types of re-enactment groups, the list goes on and on.

I think its more to the point that These other groups were not a direct threat to the UK, like the Nazi’s war machine was, and thank god we beat them.
yes there are alot of iddiots in re-enactment, and also in all other walks of life, .

I drives me mad with the british fascination with nazi germany, as the apitomy of all evil, and yes i agree it was, but there is so many other countries and conflicts with sometimes as eqaully as disturbing genocide, and attrocities, which no one seems to care about.

Re-enactment is there to teach, show , people what equiptment was used, and uniforms etc, a hands on approach if you like. and yes many collectors enjoy it.

but to tar everyone who collects german militaria, or more to the point German re-enactors as “Nazi sympasysors (yes i know i cant spell:rolleyes:)
is a little unfair… does this mean that every Soviet reenactor is a stalinist commie, ??

I only used the qoute from above as a “For example” there is no intension fo offend anyone… just thought it would be something worth mentioning, and worth giving a little thought too, 🙂

Well I would think twice about pulling on a Nazi uniform, and apart from the obvious size issues, wouldn’t put on a Jap uniform for all the tea in China; attrocities were comitted before, and after WW2, but nothing compares to the organized genocide perpetrated by Nazi Germany.

It does but there has to be a victim making a claim of fraud first. The local District Attorneys will not file a proactive attack on fraudsters which is a crying shame. Even when you do have a victim it is still very difficult to get them to go after the people involved.

Does the law there not have provision for preventing what amounts to fraud if the items are not genuine, (but are being sold as)?

First off you need to disabuse yourself that these people are Nazi lovers. They are not. They do however love money and stealing it from the ignorant and uneducated (I know I am being superfluously redundant but I wanted to make a point!) and neo Nazis fit the bill. Ergo they present a front that draws in the unwashed and they steal from them. Unfortunately there are also non neo nazis who also fall prey to these vermin.

I can’t quite work out who’d buy it. Any aviation memorabilia collector would spot the fake immediately, just from the photos. Who else would be interested?

However, I do think there should be more noise made by the historic aviation community about these Nazi worshipping idiots who hang about on the fringes.

There was a bloke strolling about Duxford’s end-of-season show with some Nazi dress uniform or other on. My friends – including one Jewish bloke – took me there as a surprise for my birthday. No-one took offence – he looked too ridiculous – but some DID look at me funny after that (“..is THIS what you’re into”?)

Exactly, no matter how sugar coated some want to make things, they cannot change history, what really boiled my pee is when they banned swastikas from Airfix kits.

A pity. There is an offence in Britain of ‘going equipped to cheat’ which might help prevent it here … if it was reported … and the law could be bothered.

I’m sure that would be difficult. But to reiterate – unless he was re-enacting a formal dinner (actually, dinner re-enactments sound like the way forward to me) he was considerably overdressed. But I apologise for derailing this thread.

Oh, and hello Merkle! I reckon we’ve stood in the same muddy hole as teenagers – I was in the Severnside Aviation Society, and I believe you were in the SWARG?
