Now correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure you are supposed to point the aircraft down the runway when landing, not across it, I mean its not as if the approach to Kai Tak isn’t excitement enough, without then having to suffer this as well!

RE: Unusual way to land a 747
Can you imagine sitting in a left hand window seat on one of these aircraft?
You’d be looking out the window thinking you were landing the wrong way!
I saw another one of these, it was a Korean Air 744 and was in Flight International. It shocked me a bit and I put the article up on my wall, still there. The article ends by saying “the aircraft taxiied slowly to the gate”. I bet it did!

It’s probably good the Kai Tak was closed because judging by these pics and others posted in the past, it really is a deathtrap!

a similar thing…..Kai Tak was known for landing like this. As the airport is situated between cliffs…alot of crosswind occurd there.

Forget it, I found it. Actually, the pic that Dazza posted here is an AirChina Cargo 747-200F. The ‘series’ that you referred to where it shows the 4 pictures and the full recovery is of an NCA 747-200F. Very similar in the initial photo right at touchdown, but you can tell the difference if you look at both of them.

RE: Unusual way to land a 747
Thats either one hell of a strong crosswind or a pilot with a nervous disposition who likes sailing!
Nice one.

RE: Unusual way to land a 747
Did this aircraft make a full recovery for a normal landing? Or is this that China Airlines 747-400 that wound up floating in Kowloon bay where they had to blow the tailfin off as to not obstruct traffic? There does not appear to be any winglets on this thing, unless they are just not visible.
