Unusual Weather Occurances

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-11-02 AT 01:43 PM (GMT)]UK was the recipient of a heavy thunderous downpour this morning which you would most associate with Asian or American weather, with all the flood damage in central Europe and an extensively longer summer season for the brits this year, is our continual destruction of the Ozine layer to blame??, there have been reports recently that the ozone layer will shrink in the next 50 years,

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1050495.stm

or that a hole is already heading to Europe (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1647177.stm) so isn’t it time the worlds nations get together for World summits on a more regular basis (5 years instead of ten!), higher influence heads of states attending and brainstorming sessions of some of the worlds decorated meteriological scientists……far fetched ideas i know!! but can we still ignore these freak weather conditions happening???

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-11-02 AT 11:17 AM (GMT)]Yeah you could be right there Eric,
but hasn’t it already been done before in biblical times, when God flooded the Earth to cleanse it of evil (Well, there is a school of thought that think’s God is an alien isn’t there?)

This time there wont be just one Ark there’ll be
The USS.Bush, allied with…
HMS.US Lapdog,
The Euoroship. Brussels,

…….then there’ll be…

The SS “we hate white farmers” Africa.
The SS “not sure whos side we’re on yet” Middle East
The SS “England or bust” Eastern Europe
The HMAS “got another tinny” Australia
and South Americas best, the SS Revolution

plus the Flagship Islam ,
the SS Al Quaida
the SS Terrorists without a cause
and the SS Terrorists with a cause

then last but not least,
the SS Rest of the World

…………all vieing for world supremecy, each one believing their right and the others are wrong…until some one comes along and pulls the plug on the lot of them!!!!!!!!!

WHO’LL BE NOAH ???

What was this thread about? oh yes, the weather.

RE: Unusual Weather Occurances

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-11-02 AT 01:10 PM (GMT)]That was some storm!! the 1987 one that is

And contrary to popular belief it wasn’t a hurricane, although the winds were hurricane force, which means 75mph and above and force 12 on the beaufort scale.

Meteorologists would call it a Temperate Frontal Storm, which can harness 100 times more energy than a hurricane can.

RE: Unusual Weather Occurances

At this time of year (after the northern hemisphere summer) the sea temperature in the Carribean is at a high peak which causes a lot of moisture to rise up off it into the atmosphere. This develops into storms and ultimately hurricanes which then batter Mexico and South-East US. When they meet a significant land mass they deposit a significant part of their moisture and energy before spinning off north-east, decaying in strength but heading back accross the atlantic where they hit North-West Europe as a classic depression. Sometimes they manage to keep a significant amount of their energy, just like the one that hit the UK about 10 days ago and October ’87.

RE: Unusual Weather Occurances

The ozone is indeed repairing itself and at its current rate should be repaired withing 40 – 50 years.

The increase in the rain in the Northern Hemisphere is indeed due to more water being turned into water vapour, but its cause is not strictly an increase in fossil fuels etc, the sun is also to blame.

In the records the general temperature of the earth follows a path of activity that closely follows the activities of the suns most active periods, which we are currently experining.

So when the Sun calms down the earth will cool down as well.

RE: Unusual Weather Occurances

I dont think the heavy rain is anything to do with the ozone layer being destroyed , in fact I think I remember reading somewhere not so long ago that it was actually repairing itself.

It’s probably down to global warming as a whole , naturally or unnaturally (burning of fossil fuels, depletion of rain forests etc!)

The warmer the equatorial regions the more water vapour is turned into storm clouds then we get a knock on effect as it were, the UK is not the only place on Earth thats being affected, as you say its quite wide spread, and I honestly think the “damage” is irreparable.

We’re just gonna have to adapt!!
