The Vintage Aviation Echo is publishing a five-part Mark Hanna series. You can read it online for free via the link below. The first part published on 18 April and subsequent instalments follow each Sunday through to 16 May.
Part 1 can be read at https://vintageaviationecho.com/mark-hanna-pt-1/.
With contributions from c. 25 interviewees and 100+ photographs from 20 contributors (many of which are unpublished), this landmark series is a must-read for vintage aviation aficionados. It’s been several years in the making, with much of the intensive writing occurring during lockdown last spring.
I’ll post links to parts two through five in this thread as they publish, and welcome posters to share their own memories.

Elliott,
This is an absolute must read for anyone with even half an interest in Vintage aviation.
Having been involved in the scene in the 90’s, I knew many of the people you interviewed, and it brought the era back to me perfectly. I didnt know Ray, and Mark only well enough to nod at when he turned up at HFL. I do however have memories of Mark getting airborne in TE566; he taxied up to the far end of the runway, got airborne (just!), retracted the gear, then dropped, before following the runway all the way to the end before pulling up and over at the end of the runway.
Another time, Tim Routsis was able to lend him a propeller after MH434 had a ground strike at Biggin Hill. On the way back to Duxford, he blew through AE, and beat the place up extremely comprehensively, and VERY low. Quite something to remember.
Happy times!
Bruce

Not sure why the forum insists on dropping posts to the second page when you edit the original post, but… bump.

Part two is now live… We’re heading to the mid to late-’80s, and Mark’s flying on Empire of the Sun, Piece of Cake and Memphis Belle. The years that saw Mark establish himself as “part of the Hanna family flying legend”.

That happens for me too, but with all URLs from this forum! To anyone else having difficulty, just copy and paste the URL (or Google the Echo, as above!) to get around it the glitch.

For me, that link just bounces right back to this forum ( really useless, cheapo, IT on here continues to discourage users) .
Happily, of course Google will bring up the Vintage Aviation Echo in a moment.
