As you all know the musesum has closed but has anyone passed or visited the airfield recently.??
Iam wanting to know updated on the
Bac 1-11 201ac XX105 any recent pics
Bac 1-11 XX919 cockpit any recent pics
Phantom Fg.1 XT597 any recent pics
Phantom FGR.2 XV401 any pics
Iam also wanting to know what Andovers are still flying ???
Please update me and lighten me.
I wish someone would save the Bac 1-11’s as this is the only early aircraft left as British Airferries scrapped EI-BWI former G-ASJC and G-OCNW which ended up as a tv prop and was scrapped im still waiting to catch pics of her when she was used as a tv prop. The only early one surviving is G-DBAF ex G-ASJG which is in South Africa (any hope of museum in South Africa please save her).

Preservation is a very strange animal, especially when it comes to transport aircraft.
I am not a great fan of the 1,11 but I would travel a long way to see XX105 restored to its BUA delivery colours. It is surely a more interesting airframe than the Duxford example or the Brooklands development aircraft?
The UK made very few commercially viable airliners yet more effort seems to be going into saving Nimrods than Domini’s, 748’s, Jetstreams or early 146’s. I can’t believe that the Nimrod is going to be a crowd puller anymore than the other types I have mentioned. Why is the Duxford Viscount (The oldest Viscount in the world!)kept out side?
I understand how you feel Bac1-11, but I fear museums will always favour military types, no matter how unsuccessful or useless they were.

I think you’ll find cost is the overriding factor in everything. It cost us £75000 to move a 1-11 part-fuselage from one end of the country to the other. Wings and tail section would have cost that much again. How many volunteer-run museums could afford that sort of investment? You could stop complaining and go and save it yourself – no-one else will. Sorry, but the 1-11 is not that important in the grand scheme of things…..
edit: According to this:
http://bac1-11jet.co.uk/bac1-11jet.co.uk%20Stored%20Fleet.htm
There are 71 whole-ish examples left! Some still flying, PLUS the fuselage sections in use as cabin crew trainers (mine included).

…The problem with preservation in this Country is, it has to be a crowd puller to get preserved so it can bring in the readies. So, unless your a spitfire or a hurricane, you aint got a hope in hell.
I think that’s a rather simplistic view that doesn’t give credit to a lot of hard work by hundreds or even thousands of people! 🙁

I saw XX105 early last year and there is no way it looks like it does in the photo posted on here, the engines were missing as was the rudder and the paint work was flaking off. I have been told that she has been moved away from the museum area ready for scrapping which i think is b****y disgusting bearing in mind the age and history of the airframe (ex British United’s G-ASJD). The problem with preservation in this Country is, it has to be a crowd puller to get preserved so it can bring in the readies. So, unless your a spitfire or a hurricane, you aint got a hope in hell.

How interesting. I read the exact opposite, so it just shows how damn careful you’ve got to be on the forum before we all take umbrage…….especially pesky volunteers;);):)

If I was making a request of the good people of this forum for their time and input, I’d word it as politely as I could. It just seemed a little abrupt. That’s all… 🙂

I think it was the wording of the OP’s request he was commenting on SH. And to be fair I can see his point…
Not to make a meal of it, Blue, but I’m not sure what you mean………

Can I just echo what you’ve written there… Especially given the ‘enthusiasm’ that nashio has shown in his posts in the past. Nothing wrong with enthusiasm, but dont then shoot people down for showing the same ‘enthusiasm’ as you have previously.

A little bit lighter for you! 🙂
Thanks!
Lighter but grainier, which is why I try not to push the brightness too far.:)
