The big problem is how many museums are going to be buying parts for F14s? not many i would have thought as most (if not all) of the F14s were delivered direct from Squadron service so are pretty complete anyway.
Obviously these aircraft were de-militarised (unlike Bellasario’s one’s) before hand over but that is no major thing as they would not have needed to strip them to keep others in service or anything so is this just some political sabre rattling to look like they are addressing a NON issue.
The other thing with the F14 is some of their systems are unique to the aircraft, one way or another especially in the A models that Iran has, that is why they have been retro fitting them with off the shelf equipment or backwards engineering some things where possible so maybe the bill is largely unnecassary anyway ?

The last line offers hope:
“If enacted, HR 1441 would prohibit the Department of Defense from selling F-14 parts except to American museums for the purpose of preserving history.”

Makes it a bit scary to buy an “ex” military machine. Dosen’t matter if you have a bill-of-sale and went through channels. It seems there are always more channels.
I know the U.S. Navy has VERY tight laws of ownership, including wrecks and parts of wrecks. If you buy a “collected” peice of a Naval aircraft, the Navy may still own it. If I read the rules right, it takes an act of Congress to approve the recovery of anything Naval!
If I had the cash to buy anything big that was formerly USN, I would be VERY careful!
Here is an interesting link to the USN policy on ship and aircraft wreck sites

That is not good news.
The unfortunate thing is small museums who got surplus F14 could have them taken back to be scrapped in the name of security.
When i was at planes of fame last year they said they had refused one because they were asked to have added security even though there were 3 of them over the road with just a mesh fence to protect them.
The F14 might become a rare bird because of this, but it also begs the question about the other western types Iran use like the F4E and F5E which might fall under this bill ?
