Nice update on the Sea Fury after the well known emergency landing a couple of years ago for which the Pilot was awarded a well deserved AFC

Hi, I see there is mention of the Sea Fury G-FURY in this thread. If this thread is still active would you be interested in some old photos I’ve just found of it’s last flight from Kirmington (Humberside) Airport in North Lincolnshire in July 1981 where it had been displaying with the G-FIRE and G-HUNT? I’ve just found them looking for something else! They need scanning which I’lI do if there is any interest. The photos are of G-FURY and G-FIRE departing after the display was over, which as you turned out to be G-FURY’s last flight.

Why does the name Mike Searle keep flashing up in my mind? I’m sure he was associated with a Sea Fury incident somewhere?
Correct.

Guys, c’mon!!! No one is perfect, Spencer did an huge bonus to the UK scene with his 3 red aircraft, how many of you know that he purchased 1 of 3 lots of Fury parts from Germany, that lot ended up here in Oz to help refurbish the 3 Furies we did so his contribution goes on!!! this thread is about VX 281!!
Spencer Flak indeed needs to be thanked and remembered for his contribution to the UK and latter the world warbird scene which was no small thing it was a shame about the Fury and the comments after

Spencer Flack was NOT the pilot who ran G-AGHB/WH589 out of fuel in Germany in 1979.

The engine was fine it was lack of fuel I was also told this may not have been totally down to the Pilot. However rule 101 pilot should check the fuel him self

I had just assumed as the owner of it he had piloted it, I was more interested in the engine aspect surrounding that one more than who flew it as it was a few years ago since I read the article and couldn’t remember the details
By: Tempest414 - 22nd March 2016 at 11:49
Just been asking around and was told the same
By: Tempest414 - 22nd March 2016 at 11:45
Done some asking around and it was not Flak flying WH589 at the time of the crash but he did own it

Spencer Flak! G-FURY was put on its nose at Stapleford little work was carried out after this and the man was shocked when the engine quit about 6 or so flying hours latter
I have a very nice photo of G-Fury on its nose but was asked not to release it
Crikey – I remember that. I was about 10 at the time, lived in Ongar, and had cycled to the show

I looked up this
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/furyregistry/fury-wh589.html
Next aerojumble I will try and find a copy of the article I read, my brain is not what it was, I seem have it in my mind they fitted one engine that failed, then another then it crashed.
I fully admit I may be confused and have a letter that proves why this can happen. 🙂

It was WH589 as the former Haydon Baillie one I was thinking of, he crashed it in 1979 at Osnabruck, now I have looked it up
then it would appear he crashed 2 Fury’s and both time’s his fault

I thought I remember he had another one before G-FURY that had engine failure and crashed was in a camouflage scheme, think it was a Flypast article, many moons ago, his comments about the Centaurus I read, revolved around his experience with that aircraft
No It was G-FURY in 81 on the way back from a show with G-FIRE
also it was Stefan who put her on her nose

Fuel “management” issue I understand from former members of the Haydon-Baillie team…
