Update on Vintage & Classic day 19th Sept. at TW

If you remember a while back there was a thread on the problems being experienced with the planning permissions.

The latest is that the planning meeting SHOULD have been held on the 5th but was cancelled and may now be either be at the end of this month or early next.

No reason apparently has been given (well I’ve not been told of any) as to why the planning meeting was cancelled but I’ll keep you informed as I know.

If the meeting is not until early September it leaves little time to get it all in place but we will, if successful, do as much as is humanly possible to pull it out of the bag and hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Stay safe

After all that has gone on here is a response to the matter by the VAC.

This just god damned stinks! I’d create such an uproar with the local press and shout as loud as you can for your cause. How can one person (clearly in the minority) win. Just wondering is it a Labour council?

Hi all it was indeed turned down but the event was held – under appeal I believe. We had 69 visitors.

The planning business…

There were some 76 letters of support for the airfield and three against of which two were apparently late – only one received before the hearing. this one objected because of:
The airfield does not abide by the conditions and no consideration is given to the locals, Regular infringements of the routeing agreement, Creation of additional noise when people deserve peace and quiet

There were 17 points raised in favour form the 76 letters!!!
There was also comment made that it has taken so long to get to a hearing.
The case officer recommended that no objection should be made but the committee still turned it down.

There is obviously a lot more to this… Even the PFA open day and AGM movements were also used against the airfield… The evidence against even listed the aircraft registrations, types and the number of movements.

The VAC committee are having a special meeting to discuss the way forward and the like and I’ll let you know as soon as I do and I can pass it on.

Sadly true. I got a letter from the council yesterday to this effect, but no explanation as to why it was refused. Finmere has just been sold, but as the buyer owns an Islander, at least he is sympathetic to aviation. We need a few more people like him!

I have just read on another board, that the application for variation of number of movements at Turweston for 19/9/04 and ALL the VAC dates for 2005, has been REFUSED.

Where can they go now? Back to Finmere perhaps. What sort of democracy is this, when one individual, can scupper the efforts, and recreational outlet of so many other people? The revoltion gets closer………

The thread I was refering to was this one…
http://forum.airforces.info/showthread.php?t=29997

Not to worry about the 19th… There are a few more dates to choose from…
We have one visitor already for the 19th – Haairyplanes PT-22 is at TW for the week and will be rolled out onto the line for the day.

PLease note folks that airside access will be VAC members and aircrew only – occaisional escorted walks may be available subject to free bodies…

We are going to try and sort the arrivals with Vintage & Classic closest to the “fence”.

Cheers all

Sorry, it may be me, but I can’t find the Headcorn thread, can anyone enlighten me please????

Best of luck on the 16th OAW, hope all goes well, can’t make the 19th now though I’m afraid.

LATEST UPDATE

Well at last we have a date for the hearing:
16th September 2004
first event date on the application – 19th September 2004!!!! 😮 😡 🙁

I suppose the good thing is that the planning application is for the September and October events in 2004 and for all five for 2005.

Dates for 2005 are:
15 Jan – Snowball
13 Feb – Valentine
16 Apr – Daffodil
18 Sep – Vintage & Classic day
29 Oct – All Hallows

Thanks to everyone for their support in this insanity – (not unlike Headcorns problems – see the thread in the Historics Forum) – Just hope we’ve put up a better case than the “opposition”.

Cheers for the support Steve. Hope to see you there. I should be easy to spot as a big orange thing waving at aeroplanes….

I doubt I’ll be able to blag a club aeroplane for the day, it being a weekend and all that, but if all else fails I’ll be there via ground based means.

Best of luck in your continuing struggle against buffoonery…

Nope, it’s always a good idea. Mrs Moggy is just about the nicest person I know.

But we have a democratic marriage and she has given up her beach hol to trudge round Arnhem with a veteran (see what I mean?), what we do the following weekends should really be up to her to choose.

moggy

What a fantastic woman she must be.
Hope the Arnhem trip is all that you wish it to be. Sounds like a great tribute to those who didn’t make it from there…
I take it you’ll be posting some photos on the historics of you trip?

I had similar arrangement with my ex-wife where if I was out “aeroplaning” I’d have either the Monday or Friday off so her and the monsters didn’t miss out.

All being well I look forward to seeing both yourself (and possibly Mrs M) and Y 11 F on the 19th.

Why not bring Mrs Moggy along too…? Or is that not a good idea?

You are more than welcome in a 172… The event will run as other VAC fly-ins. IIRC its PPR (can ring on day – sure some call once in the air!) Landing fee does apply at TW but is less if you are VAC member and is free if you uplift a certain amount of fuel – the value of which escapes me at the moment.

Don’t ever recall anyone being turned away…

Sorry, I was thinking more to do with details of the event should it go ahead and whether I can fly in in a 172.
I had been trying to follow the Turweston problems this year and wish you all the best in sorting it out.

If it comes off will we be seeing you and your aeronautical carriage?

It’s not impossible. But Mrs Moggy will have a say, coming so soon after Arnhem.

Yak 11 Fan

What sort of details would you like?

The details of the trouble we are having were on a thread a little while ago (just did a search and failed to turn it up.)

When the VAC events are on we take all types.
Last years September do (our 100 years powered flight commemoration event) pulled in all sorts from the largest biplane the An-2 to the smallest the BGP.1, a couple of helicopters three axis and flex microlights a vintage glider, motorgliders and many other types – homebuilt, production and vintage. We even have had twins in in the past.
The September do also has vintage & classic vehicles and the like and we also helped a couple of local clubs celebrate 100 years of Harley Davidson, Ford, Vauxhall and of the side car (we had one that dated from 1903 there).

Last year Hairyplane was there in his Magister and the Ryan he now owns was there too.

Any chance of some more details, this one seems to have passed me by so far? Are there any restrictions on the type of aircraft you can fly in?
