Updates Wanted On A Few Of Supermarine's Finest…

I just put on my bifocals, got myself a cup of hot cocoa, laid back comfortably on the couch, draped a blanket over my legs and started looking through “the boo” (both editions). This made me realize that some time has passed since both books were published. Which means that it would be great to get an update on the status for a few of the airframes listed. A few of which I was thinking about are:

P8088
P9373
EP122
LZ844
MH588
RX168
TB252
Alec Wilson’s cache of parts/ projects

I used to help keep preserved aircraft information on Wikipedia current in my downtime at work, but after trying to update the TIGHAR page to include planned/publicised projects – and to mention they hadn’t recovered any aircraft – my IP address was banned.

Errol – that’s probably our best bet as the NZ Civ Air blog post mentioned 2016, and Wanaka is probably a real long-shot at this point.

By the way, how often is the Wikipedia page updated? We might hopefully get some further details here on the forum, and in real- time.

hi TJ,

I keep that Wiki page pretty up to date to be honest and was adding some more information to it only yesterday.

I try to keep rumour out of it and only make changes when things are ‘official’.

Hope it is of interest.

Hopefully the completion timing is such that we can see it at a Warbirds Open Day at Ardmore before it heads home!

Hurry up and finish it please. I’m currently sitting in my office 200 yards from the end of the runway at its new home, watching the spam cans fly over and wishing there was a Spitfire in the circuit.

:eagerness: Happy to help. Last time I was in the AvSpecs hangar (March 2011) she was wrapped up in clear plastic awaiting her turn:

Hi Ben.

I decided to start a Spitfire thread as they are few and far between here. Also, keep in mind that since the Spitfire isn’t such a sexy machine I’m all for trying to promote it from time to time… 😉

By the way, how often is the Wikipedia page updated? We might hopefully get some further details here on the forum, and in real- time.

Thanks also to K5054NZ for the info on TB252. This XVI has been in a jig for quite some time. Great to see it being worked on.

Hi TJ – no, an other Spitfire thread :very_drunk: – you may check the Wikipedia page about the Spitfire survivors: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surviving_Supermarine_Spitfires

TB252 is progressing well at AvSpecs here in New Zealand, here’s a photo and some info from August this year.
