:mad::mad::mad: What morons!
So my secritary told me that a new firmware is available for my E71. I think ok, let’s do it. Naively hoping for some file to download and copy and run. You know, the old-fashioned DOS-like way. Straightforward. But NOOOOO!
First they want me to download 23 megs for the updater. Just a question: What if I don’t have a computer?
Already don’t like it, will surely install a load of crap on my notebook, but: Ok, has to be.
But not so fast! They want to know what product code my phone has. Hmmm. Where do I get that one? Website just says ‘enter product code’, not where to get it. Hoping it says under ‘About’ on the phone. No. Perhaps via the firmware code *#0000#? No. So I put it into the search field. Comes back saying ‘under the battery’. UNDER THE BATTERY!!! So I switch it off, take battery out and enter the code in the field, put battery back, switch phone on, reconnect to USB.
But not so fast! You can’t install when the phone is on the USB of the computer. WHY? Hell, no idea, hope the Indian who wrote these lines knew.
Now the updater likes me and allows me to install him. Of course he doesn’t ask me what drive, or where, just places it square on the Desktop. I hate that!
Then: Installs. Ok. But requires a NEW START of the computer!!! WTF??? I comply.
Now, due to the DHCP issue when you start the notebook with the ADSL/USB cable on (@ home), it takes for ever. So I always start without. Comes the message: ERROR. Nokia Updater can’t connect to internet – will shut down. Of course you can’t connect! You didn’t give me time to connect after re-start. There are people who are not connected via ethernet and a insta-online, you know? Idiot!
So I connect to the net, restart updater. Updater fuzzes around, comes message like: Be aware it’s dangerous – blablabla. And: ALL CONTENT OF YOUR PHONE WILL BE ERASED!!!
Not on mine, asshole! I press abort and byebye. Don’t need that.
WHO DESIGNS SUCH CRAP??? 😡
Was always a Motorola fan, think I’ll go to look at some Samsungs. Nokia is a no-show for me.
