Upgrades

Does anyone have any stories of getting bumped from their purchased class to something better? I’ve heard that BA frequently bumps single travellers from cattle class to World Traveller in an effort to seat families together. Three flights ago the guy behind me got bumped up, I was pissed. I even wore a shirt.

Yep I got upgraded with Alitalia earlier this year, but I’ll always try to avoid them…not a great experience.

I’ve been lucky 3 or 4 times.

Last week (ref my trip report) I got a Club World upgrade with BA. I’ve been bumped up to Upper Class with Virgin before, as they had issued 8 boarding passes for 4 seats, so the 4 of us already seated got an upgrade.

BA also did me a favour a few times in the early 90’s, as have KLM.

Technically speaking, I was also upgraded yesterday on a Flybe flight from LCY to IOM. I was given “economy plus”, but that’s only the same as standard economy with free vouchers for the inflight service.

In my Uni days, I would regularly take the train from Drayton to London Paddington, and would sneak into the 1st class compartment every time.

I got upgraded from World Traveller to World Traveller Plus twice on one trip. On the way out to Philadelphia we travelled to Heathrow with a friend of mine who works on the 777 with BA, he had a word a check in and got us upgraded.

On the return flight they were asking people to come off the flight as they had overbooked. Myself and three friends opted for this and we were rewarded with $200, free meals for the next 24 hours, a stay in a really nice 5 star hotel and yet another upgrade to World Travellet Plus.

To top it all off we had paid only 2 thirds of the price of an economy ticket!!! One of my friends actually made a £30 profit from the holiday!

MY dad gets upgraded to First Class from Club World 3-4 segments a year on BA Transatlantic (he does about 18-20 return trips a year), but then, that might just be down to thc Gold Executive Club FF card…

I got bumped on a KLM flight from Narita bound to AMS.
I had a coach ticket (my company is cheap :)) and for some reason I received a business seat assignement.

The officer at the check-in window didn’t tell me anything, but it was a lovely surprise and I slept very well 😀
