UPS to get A380s (?)

One of the airliners.net posters is quite the detective! He has found on the Airbus.com website a number of links that would at least strongly imply that UPS is going to order one or more A380s!

First is a list with A380 customer logos. http://www.airbus.com/A380/Images/mme/1580.JPG to http://www.airbus.com/A380/Images/mme/1593.JPG. Included are Singapore (1580), Emirates (1581), Malaysia (1582) and all the other known customers. Number 1593 however shows the logo from UPS.

While that may just be chance, it gets better! This page, http://www.airbus.com/A380/ArticleDetail.aspx?CatID=PARTNER1&SCatId=SUPPLIER&ArtID=359, shows just a header “SELECTING THE A380 – UNITED PARCEL SERVICE”. Interestingly, the date is set for the 17th of January! 10 days from now! This would seem to indicate that an order will be unveiled at or prior to the 17th of january. UPS is known to want to scale down their A300F orders, so perhaps some of these planes will be converted to A380s?

In related news Louisville, UPS’ main hub, is to get its runway reinforced and extended to handle A380s. http://www.airportsinternational.co.uk/api_news.asp

All this is just speculation, but the indications are all there to be seen!
