I have made two serious approaches regards the Drover and there has also been an Australian approach . As long as the current management stay in place I am sure she will continue her slow decline which is approaching terminal. There are different approaches to preservation in the U.K – often it’s the ownership of an item as opposed to it’s preservation that seems important.

I recall paintballing at Lasham. The company claimed to have walked a helicopter airframe from the museum to the wood without anyone noticing and subsequently no one had at that time objected.
Bruce,
re Blue Robins qoute above. If a helicopter can be walked in to the museum without any one noticing or even objecting. Is there anychance we can walk the Drover for your place in a similar vein? 😉

Do a search on Drover on the forum….
I did make contact with them some while ago, but the answer was a very definite ‘NO’
Its an important piece of de Havilland Heritage, and one of the few that has eluded me so far! If any one has any influence, or knows anyone there, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Actually whilst their action in this case is both irresposnible and reprehensible, I don’t see that not recognising an F104 makes you a ‘silly prat,’ could you tell the difference a Shire and a Percheron? how well do you know your bumble bees? Do you know the plots of all Hardy’s novels? and how many of the Mastermind questions on Jeniffer Aliston did you answer correctly?
We all have our own speciallised subjects and areas of interest and to assume that everyone should be interested in and have a detailed knowledge of aircraft recognition is blinkered in the extreme.
Steve.
PS. That Drover need moving, probably to the De Havilland Museum.

Bubbleheads….
If these guys want to explore, and they honestly care about the aircraft, would it not make more sense to visit the museum, make a donation or volunteer to help look after the airframes and site?
Sometimes I see their point in recording forgotten history when they are causing NO damage, but when you read the bubblehead that said ‘he couldn’t get into’ the aircraft, it is these mindless people that spoil it for everybody else, as possibly the next person trying to get in will see it as more of a challenge, and break in….
Just my tuppenceworth…

Stupid Question
Heres a stupid question for you all:
Why is the museum called Second World War Aircraft Preservation Society, when according to the aircraft they have there, the only one that might even be close to WW2 would be the Auster, nowt else there fits in?
Or am I just being blonde again? 😀

And here they gleefully proclaim how they bypassed security at Dunsfold to get at the SHAR and 747…..

I am baffled, why is such a rare aircraft as A DH Drover rotting outside ?
I remember when it was safely stored dismantled in the back of the Air Navigation and Trading hanger at Blackpool. All the fuss about a Hunter in Hull and a Vulcan scrapped at Blackpool, surely the only Drover in the Northern Hemisphere can be properly preserved?
Museum is open Sundays and public holidays, looks as though it is open anytime. Why is the Drover outside? Because nobody cares. Imagine the reverse scene of a forgotten Mosquito outside in Australia.

OK, dumb question but how did the DH Drover reach Hampshire? (Answer probably as deck cargo?) But also – why?
