Whilst not wanting to distract from the amazing work going in to getting 558 back into the air, it seems that XL231 “Lusty Lindy” at the Yorkshire Air Museum is also in need of funds to allow her to appear at this year’s Elvington airshow on the 18th/19th August.
With any luck this might be about the time 558 joins the display circuit (how many times has that been said?) and would be a great opportunity to see two active V-bombers at the same venue; perhaps even a stream take off/taxi?
It would be a shame for Lindy to miss the Falklands 25th anniversary, especially since her captain, Barry Neal, was involved.
Please go to the website if you can help;

Thanks very much. Sorry if this isn’t the right place to put this.

Good news
Funding has been found and Lindy will be appearing at the Elvington airshow, 18th/19th August.
The funding was needed to cover the insurance costs. Nothing is wrong with the aeroplane other than a few bits and pieces which are not needed on the ground. All going well she should continue to perform for many years.
Thanks to anyone who donated or helped in any way.
However, if anyone still wants to support Lindy by making a donation there are plenty of things it could be spent on; corrosion treatment, new tyres, collecting more spares (it’s amazing what crops up on e-bay), another repaint in 5 years etc etc…

I would assume lack of funds. When I was there, we used to get donations of fuel from the airshow bowsers which would see us the rest of the year. Major problem now I would assume would be public liability insurance..
She is immaculate, but I have never seen the Brunty example, so I couldn’t say which was best. I’d be biased too…..
Everything on Lindy worked except a few unknows like the anti ice, etc which we couldn’t test, and the autopilot kept coming off line at random points. The H2S works a treat. I swear a couple of years ago she had air UNDER her wheels during a VERY fast taxi……….
They have a good stack of spares, but as usual the problem is that she is not under cover. If a big hangar could be built, she’d out live us all.
I’m sure Steven will have more up to date news on her. We’d appreciate being kept informed since the website is down…..
My regards to Andre, Andy King et all… Do you still have Roger ‘Ra ra my aeroplane’ Brooks there?

Lindy
Whats wrong with Lindy? She is the best looked after active Victor Left I think. Shame they dont have a building big enough to place her in though.

It seems 558 won’t be making Elvington, but it would still be a great shame for Lindy not to make it.
No, the bombay HDU has not been fitted yet, but she has had a repaint recently and everything else is bing kept on top of.

Ahh, my namesake… I remember, back at the turn of the century when I was fixing her…. ra ra ra…..
Good luck getting your funding guys. Have you fitted that centre line HDU yet?
