Hi
Does anybody know if any of the P51 mustangs in the UK have 75 gallon droptanks? or if any museums have them on display?
Any help including possible access would be great.
Thanks

Drop tanks
The RAFM has at least one 75 gall drop tank my recollection is that it is not at Hendon but at another site. You need to get into their database Navigator and search on “Mustang”.

Story suggestion for FlyPast..
Do a “spotters guide’ to RAF/USAAF drop tanks.
These questions come up often.
Not long ago, a neighbor showed me what he claimed was a WWII P-51 tamk..it looked like it, but I’d like to know for sure.
He said he had a bunch…and if they check out, I’m thinking they could be worth something.

Don’t go by the silhouette of a P-38 on them – that was the ‘logo’ for “Operation Bolero II” which would have seen Glacier Girl accompany MV over the ‘pond’…
But I am sure one of the TFC folk will be able to confirm the true spec of the MV tanks…

Thanks Bob
I think they are a later type (P38?)
The ones i’m after are the more common teardrop shaped ones.
Cheers

Not sure what cacpcity they are but TFC’s Miss Velma used drop tanks for her transatlantic crossing last year.
