US air attack in Pakistan

Why oh why does the US continue to squander the sympathy and goodwill it received after 9/11? To many people it seems like the US thinks it can do just whatever it likes, wherever it likes. Pakistan is a badly needed ally of the US (something of a rarity in the Moslem world) and yet the CIA just blunders into a sovereign state and kills 18 innocent people on the basis of yet another intelligence ****-up, and then seems to just shrug as if to say “Oh, too bad…” (at the time of writing, according to the BBC, the US hasn’t even commented on it) Supposing the CIA thought Al Qaeda people were hiding in some remote part of the British Isles; would we get a visit from the Predators too? 😑

why people make so much noises…

And why should they not? US is supposed to be an ally which in turn bombed some place in Pakistan without notifying the government of Pakistan (though personally i doubt the validity of that stance by GOP, they were very much in the loop). How do you think the public should respond to that? Keeping in mind that it was claimed at that time that its only the innocents who were killed.

One point is clear.. looks like US is loosing patience in Pakistan handling the situation.. they dont trust them anymore.. which is why Hellfire lauch inside pakistan

It’s not the first time that a US drone has actually attacked a target on the Pakistani side e.g. the hit on Abdullah Mehsud. In all of such attacks Pakistanis were very much part of the operation and I’ve no reason to believe that they were not in this particular instance. Though putting the blame squarely on the CIA and the US takes the heat off Pervaiz Musharraf from his domestic audience which in the long run is helpful for him.

One point is clear.. looks like US is loosing patience in Pakistan handling the situation.. they dont trust them anymore.. which is why Hellfire lauch inside pakistan

I am telling people like you that when US bomb and kill some terrorists, the whole pakistan erupts

People did protest the bombings (I can’t understand exactly how healthy and non violent protests can be termed as ‘eruption’ in any sense of the word) but it was due to the knowledge prevalent at that time that the victims of the bombing were all innocents and the actual targets escaped. Incase you bothered to read the no. of people protesting before and after the news of killing of 3 AQ members came you would have noticed how drastically it reduced.

but there is a war going on in Baluchistan (according to Pak army) where they are killing so called terrorists using Cobra helicopters and F-16’s which no body bothers to write about.

Would you mind quoting the Pak Army where they state that its a ‘War’ going on in Balochistan? And if it comforts you to any degree then let me tell you that there are more than enough Pakistani journalists, columnists and editors who are churning out articles upon articles condemning the handling of the Balochistan crisis by the government that includes opposition to the armed response to the separatist movement. Its getting the response it deserves. I’d suggest you to read the Pakistani press rather avidly if you think this matter is going on un-noticed by the general public.

FYI, US doesnt bomb India.. they bomb where terrorists are living.

Am I supposed to feel enlightened by that statement of yours?

Hardly “begging”. Actually, the opposite. According to the BBC, the tape offers America a truce on Bin Laden’s terms.

Right! So cinciboy would your like me to remind you how the Indian government has dealt with the Naxalities, Orissa tribals, Manipur and Nagaland insurgencies, Maoists in Jharkhand and Bihar and the Khalistan Movement? And for that matter the seperatist movement in Balochistan is nowhere near the scale of any of the above mentioned conflicts.
So how about sticking to the topic?

I guess Allah truly isn’t with them in their struggle, or they’d be having a lot more success and not having to beg for an end to the fighting, huh?

No word on Zawahiri, but Bin Laden is apparently asking for a truce with the US military:

It is a breach of the Geneva convention and, therefore, a war crime to delibirately target civilians even if military units are present in the area.

One may not intentionally attack civilians, or property that is exclusively civilian or religious in character, except if the property is being used for military purposes or engagement is authorized by one’s commander.

The latest seems to be that the Pakistan authorities know the names as well as the roles of the four arabs killed and that they were high up in the terrorist food-chain.

Any word on al-Zawahiri?

The close-est allie Pakistan, does not want to take any strong action against Taliban and AL Queeda while it makes a lot of hue and cry if USA takes action. No doubt to wangle some more free bies.

If civilians shelter terrorists then they are hardly non-combatants.

Pakistan is itself responsible for this tragedy as they will neither take action themselves nor let USA enter the country officially to take action, on ground. So difficult situations lead to more mistakes.

Not to be forgotten that Pak Govt has no difficulty using jets and helos for bombing & straffing its own citizens in Balochistan but is not very enthusiastic about any military action against terrorists from AL Q & Taliban

Sauron

surprised no one mentioned that, while some innocents did die, so were those capable of killing many more.

Agree, Mr Creo. If that’s how they treat a close ally, no wonder there’s so much ill feeling in the world to America.

Apparently the Pakistan authorities have stated that 3 or 4 of the dead were from Egypt. Tourists perhaps? πŸ˜‰

Sean,

Do you think there will be any kind of internal investigation (within the CIA) to try to figure out what happened and who was to blame? What are the chances that somebody will go down for this?

There certainly should be. However, given the classified nature of the methods and data which would be investigated, I doubt it’d ever be made public. Due to that fact right there, I also wouldn’t be suprised if no heads were offered up publicly.

I have no idea how these things work withing the US armed forces let alone the intelligence services.

Within the military it’s all regimented, documented, and whatnot. If ou screw something up, your career will pretty much be over.

My personal belief is that that CIA has given USA its worst image. From the banana wars to systematic torture of people CIA doesn’t like, to over throwing of elected governments to running US foreign policy without the knowledge of White house and state. department CIA is never held accountable for its bad deeds. I have never come across one instance in which CIA was held responsible for abusing our image.

Hey, it was CIA job to keep all the al-qaida guys out of our country but what happen on 9-11 nobody was fired from CIA…no heads rolled…none 😑

The whole point of the CIA is denyability. It wasn’t the US Armed forces. We did nothing wrong. Some guy might lose a pension or be shifted to the Mongolia office but I doubt there will be any investigation.
