Just returned from New Orleans for Mardi-Gras. I flew with US Airways MAN-PHL-MSY. I have flown with them once before over the same route but this time it was on one of there Airbus A330, and I can recommend them as a trans-Atlantic carrier. The food leg-room (in economy) and seat back entertainment available was very good. I may have been lucky but the crew on both long-haul flights were very friendly. The dometic ones were fine but what you would expect within the U.S.
The last time I went to the U.S it was Aer Lingus and the time before American, US Airways were much better than both of these

RE: US Airways
I have flown US Airways twice now MAN-PHL-MSY. The first time was on a 767 to the US second on the A330, which was a much nicer aircraft. However I though the service very friendly and food good. I also liked PHL over CHI for transfering as I flew with AA once to get to MSY. I didn’t enjoy AA’s flight/service much either ! Haven’t tried Delta or Continental yet to get to New Orleans, tried to book BMI but their connections didn’t work too well at the time I last booked.

What is the salad rumor!!!

RE: US Airways
On the flight Gatwick – Charlotte, the meal choice was Chicken curry with veges or some fancy pasta. I had a look at the trolley which had the meals in, and noticed that about 1/3 of the meals was the pasta, the other 2/3 chicken.
The also put a small side salad with the meal, and I’m happy to say that it looked a lot better than the one on car survey.
There was something else that I found very interesting, the captain’s name was Captain Budweiser. As I’m sure you can tell, this created a few little giggles.

RE: US Airways
I think that’s a slight overgeneralization. I fly United all the time, and there’s always different choices on offer. Even if chicken is a choice on several flights, it is usually done differently, or accompanied by different vegies, potato, etc. I rarely choose the chicken option, don’t eat fish, and I’m usually pretty satisfied with what I eat. Therefore, that ‘something else,’ i.e. steak, lamb, pasta, ceasar salad, etc., must be pretty good.

RE: US Airways
I flew US Airways 5 years ago, shortly after being rebranded from US Air from PIT to SFO.
Frankly, the catering was the same as the UA flight I took back to the East Coast a week later.
It’s your standard US (as in American, but not AA (-ooh dear I’m not helping myself, am I? :S )) inflight meal: a choice of chicken, or the other one, that no one ever takes…

RE: US Airways
Average, not unlike British Airways, apparantly. Now that USAirways has signed a codeshare agreement with United, I will be able to sample this tremendous service myself. Finally, THANK GOD that salad thing can be put to rest now. Thank you Shaun.

So we can put the salad rumour to bed, then… 😉
I said right from the start the catering on US Airways was your average US airine fare.

RE: US Airways
I’m not complaining… I’m just saying, they’re all the same, with little or no distictions in service from each other.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-06-02 AT 01:53 AM (GMT)]You guys dog on the U.S. airlines as if they are the worst. Who are you comparing them to, Virgin, Singapore, Emirates? Compared to them, yes, the U.S. majors are ‘sub-par.’ However, compared to most Euro-airlines (at least the ones I’ve flown on), the service is just as ‘good.’ I’ve flown on KLM, Lufthansa, Austrian, and Olympic. Austrian’s product was outstanding. The rest were just as good/bad (whichever way you want to look at it) as United’s, with whom I fly most of the time. Now if you want criticize America West, a.k.a. America’s Worst, feel free. They are attrocious. But United, American, Continental, USAirways, Delta, etc., there’s nothing wrong with their service, again, relatively speaking.

RE: US Airways
oh god. I now feel like crying after seeing the US Airways meal. I could have flown them or Delta, and I chose them because of the A-330 used on the LGW – Charlotte route.

RE: US Airways
United is the only U.S. airline that does not charge for headphone use on domestic flights. Also, the food that they serve, even on domestic sectors, is above average. In fact, it’s pretty damn good, compared to most other airline food. I’ve flown on virtually every U.S. major (United, American, Northwest, TWA, America West, Southwest) and United, without a doubt, has the best service of them all. But then again, as I’ve said before, that’s just my opinion. I’ve never flown USAirways. If their merger was allowed to go throught with UA, I’m sure I would have flown what was left of them.

p.s I have never paid for head-phones

RE: US Airways
I flew US Airways from Pittsburgh to San Francisco (on a 757) 5 years ago. However, having previoulsy had a 5 hour wait involving a transfer from LHR to LGW, and a 3 1/2 hour transfer at PIT, I was pretty tired by the time I boarded.
I’d say the service is average for a US airline. $4 (or whatever it is) for renting the headphones, and the usual meal choice on American companies of chicken or that other one that no one ever takes…
