US Airways promotional Livery

ARLINGTON, Va., March 4, 2004 — US Airways today unveiled a specialized aircraft livery to promote the consumer benefits of booking travel online at usairways.com. Approximately 10 aircraft will wear the ‘Dot Com’ livery.

Aircraft with the usairways.com logo and the tagline “No booking fees. No brainer.” are part of a US Airways multi-media campaign encompassing the airline’s Web site, electronic statements to Dividend Miles members, print advertising, onboard video announcements, in-airport promotions and other marketing communications that will be seen in coming months.

“We want to significantly raise awareness of the consumer benefits of buying at usairways.com, including the fact that we do not charge service fees like many other sources,” said B. Ben Baldanza, US Airways senior vice president of marketing and planning. “This isn’t rocket science or revolutionary, as competitors like Southwest and JetBlue have effectively used their Web sites to sell a greater percentage of their tickets to help drive down distribution costs. Our push to promote our Web site is part of our strategic plan to lower distribution costs by doubling consumer use of usairways.com. In conjunction with that effort, we are also investing in upgrades, redesigns and new features that will make usairways.com the preferred stop for our customers who wish to conduct a ticket purchase transaction themselves.”

US Airways is taking advantage of an opportunity to introduce new alternative liveries on a planned basis due to a combination of factors, including a requirement to soon paint aircraft in the Star Alliance livery; a need to re-paint some aircraft whose cosmetics are showing age; and an industry-wide Boeing inspection program for a limited number of 737 aircraft.

US Airways is the nation’s seventh-largest airline, serving nearly 200 destinations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. US Airways, US Airways Shuttle and the US Airways Express partner carriers operate over 3,300 flights per day.

will this livery only be applied to a few 737s, or can we also expect the 767s and 330s to sport these colours? I’d like to see that a lot!

I flew with them a couple of times on their 733’s when they were US Air, and found them to be a great airline

Is that why one Thomas Cook 757 has a half green half blue cover on the engine?

I’m talking about making the engine cowlings bare metal. You cannot do this as the cowlings are NOT metal!

you can paint them any colour you fancy.

Not sure, but it would definately cause some disruption. With communications too.
This is why any aircraft with a bare metal scheme has the nose cone simply painted Grey or any colour the airline wants. The nose is made from Compsit for a good reason, to allow Radar and radio transmissions to pass through easily.

Besides, the coplex curves on a nose cone would make the appliucation of a metal foil very complex and extremely difficult. Ditto with the engine cowlings.

I don’t like it. Perhaps it would look better to me if it had a different tail. It just looks odd with the standard dark color on the rudder with the rest a bright metallic.

I agree its quite a nice c/s, but as henry says, it needs more of a kick. This aircraft livery hasnt lasted long though… just looked for it on anet, and i see its borrowed a nose cone from another aircraft in the fleet already.

I also agree, wow 🙂

It looks good, but could be improved by adding some paint to make the text at the top really stand out and to visually look good enough to catch peoples eyes and say “oh look US have an offer on, bla bla”

A lot of you guys probably hate it, but I think it’s pretty cool, as long as the whole fleet isn’t painted accordingly. For just a few aircraft, it’s a nice change of pace to an already fantastic livery, in my opinion.

A lot of you guys probably hate it, but I think it’s pretty cool, as long as the whole fleet isn’t painted accordingly. For just a few aircraft, it’s a nice change of pace to an already fantastic livery, in my opinion.
