US Bases in wartime England

A friend of mine has sent me this. Not my area of expertise so over to you chaps.

During WWII, my father piloted C-47s in the 93rd Squadron, 439th Troop Carrier Group. Their base in England was “A-39” according to his log book. I’ve tried to find a list of WWII aerodromes with their code numbers, without luck. Can you help?

Thanks in advance,

Melvyn

Bases in occupied Europe were given such numbers – none in the UK

here’s a good reference of those airfields

I have these 2 websites that list UK Airfields but I was not able to find the A-39 code.

But I think Robbo is right.
