US casualties in Iraq

From the BBC:

“In Iraq as a whole, more than 40 US troops have been killed since 1 May, when President George W Bush declared the war effectively over.”

I didn’t realise it was this many.

The Americans are having quite some trouble pacifying Iraq aren’t they?
