US FMS Equipment & Espionage

Hi this is going to be an uncomfortable topic.

We all know US uses FMS and other method ( commercial etc…) to sell its equipment to Friendly and supportive countries , But what prevents US from indulging in espionage through its equipment sold .

Just as an example, US is on the verge of selling P-3C+ to India (IN) through its FMS program, Now what prevents US to hide some kind of espionage equipment in that Highly Electronic & Military aircraft in the disguise of being a part of some electronic equipment or subsystems.

Such equipment lets assume if the aircraft is bugged will transmit crucial data from the P3C to the nearest receiving station, satellite or other US intelligence asset periodically upon command or when its programmed to get activated , Such intelligence could be anything ranging from IN ASW strategies employed to signature of IN Kilo to ELINT data. Just about any thing the ONI or CIA needs at will.

There is no doubt that US has some excellent Intelligence gathering equipment , Through out the cold war such thing was employed effectively by both parties.

I am not sounding alarmist but the case of Aircraft purchased by China for its president and its timely detection of Bug is just one example , How many such bug goes unnoticed is another question.

Does The US in any way gurantees that the equipment supplied is kind of “Bug Free” and its only meant for the purpose it is supposed to be ????

Is there any kind of Law in US which prevents US from indulging in Espionage activities while selling military equipment to a foreign country NATO or Non-NATO ???

Although I am pretty sure the Soviet Union had no such Law 😀
