Shamelessly borrowed from the other Dan Johnson at the WIX.
The US Navy is continuing their policy of absolute stupidity when it comes to historic aircraft. Currently, they are trying to steal the only known complete Brewster F3A from the Minnesota man who recovered her in 1990.

Thanks Chuck – that is what I thought; just didn’t want to say it for fear of the flames from the righteous…;)

Sounds a bit like the issues raised over the recovery of the Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton “Sue” back in the 1990s when a number of different organisations claimed ownership of the fossil. As a result, Sue ended up in storage for a decade whilst the court case was running.

you shouldnt take anything from a fatal accident

From the sound of that article mr Cralley did not have permission to remove and restore the remains in the first place, that means ownership never left the us navy.
Flood if it happened in this country the results would be the same with the MoD wanting the remains back and prosicuting the people involved. As far as the MoD is concerned any WW2 wreckage found anywhere in the world, above or below the sea belongs to the crown.
From what iv`e heard the same thing happens a lot with german u-boats that sank in the channel and North Sea.

What is the state of play about the recovery of wrecks in America? What would the UK MoD do if that situation was here and not there? And the fact that the pilot died – although his body was recovered – would that have any bearing on it?
Just asking…

Poor guy
Hope he stands up to the USN – this nonsense really needs to be stopped.

This could set a precedent. I wonder what would happen if the RAF demanded the return of all Spitfires, Hurricanes, Lancasters ……………………………………………………………………………………………………..etc.
