I have broken down three questions concerning the US’s SEAD/EW mission I would like to get your opinion on in three different posts for sanity’s sake, please take a look at all three:)
Topic #2.) The F-22 and the AMRAAM- can the AIM-120 airframe be made into an effective ARM? Although it would have a smaller blast radius, and perhaps shorter range than the AGM-88, it would give the Raptor unprecedented SEAD capability. Further, it doesn’t take much to destroy a radar dish. Wouldn’t this prove to be a logical capability for the F-22 to obtain, especially with its, LO design, supercruise, impressive RWR, APG-77 (which supposedly has pretty incredible jamming capability in its own right) and gods eye view of the battlefield? Hypothetically couldn’t the F-22’s RWR work with a “ARM-120” in the same way as it does directing the AIM-120 toward its target? Wouldnt this justify more F-22s? Would this amount to the aircraft I speculated in US SEAD/EW MISSION TOPIC #1!?
Imagine a F-22 with a bay full of 2 AIM-9X, 4 SDBs and 4 ARM-120’s in the SEAD mission? Talk about a knock out punch!:diablo:
