Would anybody have any information about the display that took place between August and September 1945. I am particularly interested in finding out the serial number of the Curtiss C46 Commando that was on display underneath the Eiffel Tower.
All the pictures I have found of this C46 I have been unable to read the serial number or it might be that the serial number was painted out. I seem to remember that somebody published something about this display in one of the British avaition magazines, but at the time I didn’t take any notice of the article as I was loking the C46’s serial number at the time.
The attached picture is taken from my own collection and shows the C46 being dismantled at the end of the display in October 1945.

Thank you Longshot for finding that for me. If you have at this thread I posted on the USAAF Forum you can see that 44-77551 flew with the 29th Troop Carrier Squadron 313th Troop Carrier Group on Operation Varsity.

Hi nightdriver….image googling C-46 eiffel 1945 brings a result which with a little enhancement reads as 477551 (44-77551)
This exhibition was much photographed…several of the aircraft were painted to represent other examples with unusual combat history
