USAF and Indian AF to have dogfight excercises

AGRA: In a major step towards upgrading military-to-military ties, India and the US are now planning joint air combat exercises with top-notch fighter jets from the two countries engaging in ground attack and air defence missions

The progressive build-up in the scope and content of the joint exercises, which till now have been restricted to transport aircraft with air-lift and paradrop missions, will be discussed at the executive steering group meeting of the IAF and USAF in New Delhi on November 14 and 15.

Sources say the US has evinced interest in the participation of the IAF’s MiG-29 air defence fighters and the newly-inducted multi-role Sukhoi-30MKI jets in the joint combat manoeuvres. The USAF, in turn, is likely to showcase its F-16 ‘Fighting Falcons’, F-18 ‘Hornets’, F-15 ‘Eagles’ and the brand-new F-22 fighters.
