I quite enjoyed the day despite the long gaps during the flying in the afternoon and ‘Joe Public’ wanting to know why there were no aerobatics and the ‘Enthusiasts’ moaning about not having all this hardware at RIAT. I don’t think ‘Air Fete’ is a starter at the moment but hope that a derivative of ‘American Air Day’ becomes an annual show at Duxford as for a first event, it appears to have been a success.
I found a spot at the fence down the M11 end with a clear view of the airfield in front of me, then this bl**dy big Hercules decided to reverse up to the fence to spoil my view. The noise, the heat and the wind. It was great.

Hi Brian
Nice pics, especially the first one. I do not think I got the dust coming up from the runway.
Hard to take that some enthusiasts were moaning that the equipment was not at RIAT. They should hve been happy they saw it at Duxford.
Anyway, I believe it was exactly the same Herc that was static was also static at RIAT. Of course, F15s and a tanker or two was at RIAT. Not sure about the helicopters.
A far as Joe Public is concerned I suppose it is understandable that there were no aerobatics displays.
A bit gappy, yes but there were a few things on the ground as well.
I hope there will be a next time next year for an event like this at Duxford. Chuck in one or two more American militry aircraft and a couple of private aeros, perhaps Team Guinot or The Aerostars, Blades or some other and I will enjoy it eve more than I did.
