hi,my name is karl rossin and i race a motorcycle in the national sprint association championships.as a club we are seeking new pieces of tarmac to race down.we require a minimum of 5/8th of a mile for a 1/4 mile sprint.we currently use tempsford, westonzoyland, smeatharpe, east kirkby, elvington, poddington (santa pod) plus some M.O.D aerodromes, wattisham, waterbeach, honnington.
would any of you fine upstanding pillars of society have any leads to contacting the owners of disused aerodromes who would allow sprinting on there land.as a club we operate under the rules, regs and insurance of the auto cylce union.
and on a personel note i was an atc cadet with 134 sqn bedford for 9 years, have had the wife’s name on the side of sally b and we have just come back from merlins over malta.
many thanks

There is a section of Blyton, that used to be used by the MSA for the round of British Rallycross.
It’s no longer used for the British series, but I believe it’s still used for the clubman rallycross scene a few times a year, and on the rallycross circuit itself,it has a main straight, but I don’t know it’s length.(I know the British rallycross boys could touch 140mph on the main straight.)
My club use a section of the airfield for autograss racing, and there’s also a rally school, outlaws, stocks, and other forms of motorsport,as the airfield as a whole,is now a purpose built motorsport centre,in it’s entirety.
Sadly,I don’t know who the ‘landlord’ is,but as the rallyschool is open during the week,I’m sure they may know.
The straight is the bit following the power lines. Not the piece in the middle.(Our bit is just above the 0 on the B1205.)

Hi Karl, give the Bruntingthorpe (Leics) security office a call on 0116 2478494 they should be able to you details of what they offer in the way of track use.
The 10,500ft runway and premiter track are hireable by the day and are used by both corporate customers and general motor sport groups.
Hope it helps

Enstone
This will fit your bill.
THey have a really long runway but use less than half of it. The western end can be made available for this type of thing I believe. Its more than long enough for your purpose and has a good surface. They are really friendly there and have tea and cakes always on the go, plus a log fire when it gets a bit parky. Call Ray Brownrigg, CFI of Oxfordshire Sportflying on 01608 677208.
Best of luck.

Gosfield Essex, has a freshly asphalted Runway formerly used by ‘Which Car’ Magazine, the owner does let it out for Speed trials, (have his phone number here somewhere but damned if I can find it) have a ride down there and you are bound to meet the bloke, his office is in the old control tower.

Can’t guarantee that the owners would necessarily want to have bikes on all the aerodromes we know.
The obvious two you seem to have missed are Enstone, near Oxford, and Wymeswold near Loughborough.
Both do have motor sport events from time to time.
