Does anyone out there have any info on the USSF ships of this class? I saw them breifly in a book on the special forces here in the library, but the book is gone now and I want to know more about them.
All help greatly appreciated.

RE: Thanks Guys 🙂 🙂 🙂
I thought the Sealies now occupy a former boomer? I saw something about it, and a google search resulted in this boat being USS Kamehameha (SSN 642). Guess a sub’s a bit more seaworthy and a little less conspicuous. I don’t think a sub is a decent platform for fishing and waterskiing.

Arthur

The Cyclones have been used during Desert Storm for various tasks, not least of which being used to impose the arms embargoes to Iraq.
I am not sure, but I think I can remember them being deployed to Thailand to help with the refugee problem there.

Ja,
Have heard of these things being freighted all over the place in support of “ongoing operations” but I can only imagine it would be to places with nice, relatively, calm conditions like those you mention.
The line in the specs that states “can survive Sea State 5 conditions” sounded a bit ominous. I’ve sailed a 3 mast schooner displacing no more than 250ton, across the English Channel in November, in at least an 8 or 9 sea and, whilst it wasnt particularly pleasant, the boat was never in any danger!. These things sound a bit girly to me!
One interesting thing I read somewhere was that they’d been chopped to USCG control and armed to the gunwhales with 25mm cannon and 40mm Mk19’s for “homeland defence”. Mayhap the sealies will need some new boats to play with soon!
Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Guys 🙂 🙂 🙂
Flanker: Yeah buddy, I had seen those. Nice pic of the Already Broken Class (as they are known to the USN :D)
Jonesy: That’s exactly what I was after mate, thanks!
One other question, what are their areas of opperation, surely not just the Keys and the Gulf of Mexico?
