“Can you land this plane?”
“Surely, your not serious?”
“Yes, I am. . . and don’t call me Shirely!”

RIP Leslie Nielsen.
Was so sad to hear he passed, he was a fine actor in general and found his art in comedy acting.
I grew up watching Airplane and Naked Gun movies and they still crease me up now.
I am sure he will have them laughing in heaven now.

That’s one Dracula film I never ever saw.
I know he did one, I just never saw it.
‘Dracula- dead and loving it’. LN, Mel Brooks, well worth a look 🙂

RIP. As well as Naked Gun etc., I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned he also played the best Dracula EVER!

Absolutely disgusted to see that his death wasn’t even mentioned on the BBC 6pm news!
Peedee, yes he died in hospital after complications from neumonia.
See other replies to my post. My credit to the man was to drift the thread into one of his famous remarks from Airplane.
In Police Squad, I fell out of the chair when he once went undercover as a Locksmith to catch the bad guys.
He walked into a room and a (Suspect) man said “Who are you; and how did you get in here!”.
In that dead pan only LN could do…”I’m a locksmith and, I’m a locksmith”

“Hospital ? whats that ? …. its a large building with patients, but that doesn’t matter right now”
He leaves us with so many “quotes” that will never die …..Keith 😮
“And don’t call me Shirley” Sad loss of a great actor. 🙁

Did he die in Hospital?

I was familiar with him from his late 60s and early 70s TV series and guest starring roles…sometimes a good guy, sometimes bad, but always serious.
It was great to see him achieve fame as a comic actor in Airplane!, perhaps the funniest rapid fire* comedy film since the Marx Brothers.
RIP…and I’m serious, Shirley.
*one where the jokes come fast and furuious, as opposed to a thoughtful comedy.

RIP Commander Adams..

Absolutely gutted to hear this this morning, he was brilliant in ‘Forbidden Planet’, and his one-liners in ‘Airplane!’ have become second language.
His series ‘Police Squad’ is still the funniest US TV comedy by far, and the ‘Naked Gun’ films are genius.
His down to earthness and modesty conveyed through interviews is what realy marked him out from the others.
He will be truely missed, rest in peace “and don’t call me Shirley!”

I was watching him on TV only the other day in “Due South”, I just had to look at him and me made me smile. His later comic roles seem to be what he is best remembered for.
Sad loss, thank you for the laughs, and the laughs still to come when I watch “Airplane” or “The Naked Gun” or “Police Squad” again.

Hero all the way RIP.
The son of a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police of Danish heritage and a Welsh mother, he grew up in the Northwest Territories and in Edmonton, Alberta, where he graduated from high school. Jean Hersholt, the Danish-born actor and humanitarian, was an uncle.
Mr. Nielsen enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force before his 18th birthday and trained as an aerial gunner during World War II, but he was never sent overseas.
