I always think of him as Danny Wilde, and that quite sad theme music that seemed to go with the Persuaders.

Sad? Never thought of John Barry’s theme as sad – will have to dig it out and listen again.

Not one of his better known films but, for me, his finest acting was in The Boston Strangler. He and Dick Fleischer created a strong, brooding, tense film. It serves as an extraordinary contrast to his lighter weight comedy roles. It says a great for his talent that he was capable of that range.

RIP Danny, one of my first TV Heroes.

Which was?

For me the favourite of all his movies was the time he reunited with Jack Lemmon, his co-star in Some Like It Hot for the comedy The Great Race.

It hasn’t dated and still makes me laugh.

NO!:( Well what a career and a true Hollywood star with 5 or 6 wives to his credit, as well as being a good actor – witness The Boston Strangler on the one hand and Some Like it Hot on the other.
