Valve id please

I have two areo valves, sold as Merlin (arn’t they all?) But I don’t think they are as they are bigger than the valve I have I know is from a Hurricane. So any ideas as to what they are from? I’m not fishing for an i.d for ebay! These are not for sale just wondered if they can be correctly atributed.

They both measure approx 51mms across the face (sorry not to be more accurate but I do not have calipers)

the one with the bronze sleeve is approx 120mm long, the other is 130mm loong but there is an area of rust at the end so might have been longer.

thanks for any suggestions.

The one with the bronze guide looks like a Daimler-Benz DB601/DB603/DB605 valve to me.

that would be cool and a nice companion to my merlin valve.

Al,
Thanks for the response.
I’ll take your answer as confirmation that it’s an exhaust valve but with the engine type to be confirmed – not that its going anywhere but the study shelf.

Cheers

Yep, the Rolls Merlin valves I’ve seen usually have two large recesses at the rocker end of the valve, plus a small circlip-type groove in between.
The Merlin intake valve in front of me is around 47mm (1 7/8″)across the face, and 125mm (4 7/8″) high. I also have a Griffon intake valve, which has the same recesses, but the valve face is 52mm (2 1/16″) across, and is 142mm ( 5 1/16″) high.
Yours look like exhaust valves of some sort…

A friend gave me a “used valve” that he says is either from an Merlin or a Griffon (He certainly works with both).
It has the appearance of an exhaust valve but I can’t hear the sodium rattle (might I be sodium deaf?)
It has a 2″ Seat diameter and is 5.4″ high.
Near the Tappit end are two recess’s separated by what appears to be a Circlip/Seal bed.
The face of the Valve is vibro-etched “B7…X”

It currently has pride of place next to my Trent 1000 turbine blade…so

Is it Merlin? Or Griffon?
