Can anyone tell me the largest inlet/exhaust valve ever made for an aircraft please.
Thanks.

Here’s a comparison photo I took for a Harley-Davidson forum…
1 – From a 1974 Harley-Davidson 1,207cc
2 – Rolls Royce Merlin X 27,000cc
3 – Rolls Royce Griffon 57 37,000cc
4 – Pratt & Whitney R-2800 46,000cc

Below is a photograph of a Wright R-3350 piston which is possibly one of the candidates for ‘biggest valve’ aero-engine. The bore is 6.125 inches and with each of the eighteen cylinders displacing over three litres (186 cubic inches) it would need a pretty big inlet valve to fill them (inlet valves typically being bigger than exhaust valves).
I haven’t actually got a valve from an R-3350 but I’d guess from the cut-outs in the top of the piston that they are getting on for three inches across the head.
Other candidates for ‘biggest valve’ would probably be the BMW 801 or the Russian ASh-73.
