I came across this whilst looking for something completely different, I have no idea of the aircraft ID or how current the advert is. Anyone got any ideas ?

Allan Vogel, one of the guys behind this company is one of the lead members of the team trying to get the North Weald Douglas C-54 Skymaster back in the air, really nice guy to chat with and deserves support to get this historic aircraft flying again, check out the Facebook page for regular updates or search Save the Skymaster.

Interesting trumpet, I hadn’t heard of them before but see they also have a Mig 3 listed on their site.

Vampire T.11 XD382 is now with the East Midlands Airport Aeropark group along with the pod off XD534.

OK thanks DN. It wasn’t a B(I)8 if it was 31Sqd, only the strike sqds had 8’s and these were 3Sqd (was 59), 14Sqd (was 88) and 16Sqd, all in 2TAF Germany. Before people start shouting, I know 213Sqd was one of the Strike Sqds but they flew (exclusively) B(I)6 Canberras.
Your Swinderby Canberra was a PR.7 which was used for ground instructional and getting a training Courses’ group photo taken in front of!
Looking forward to seeing your photo.

When would that have been? I have a pretty complete list of the Canberra B(I)8s and none of them were at Swinderby. Not saying you’re wrong just wondering about the circumstances and dates.
The ONLY complete B(I)8, XM264, in Europe is at Peter Junior’s air museum – Flugausstellung Junior – near Hermeskeil. There is a B(I)8 cockpit, XM279, at Flixton though.
WT339 is on the fire dump at RAF Barkeston Heath. WT364, a “complete” B(I)8, is the kite that was at Cosford, it’s now in New Zealand, still lying in pieces at Weedon’s more’s the shame.
Then WT362 is supposed to be on the fire dump at Catterick, but I don’t know anyone who can verify this.
Just interested you understand.

Oh I’m glad about that! It’s the first Military aircraft that I had ever got close to and sparked my interest in Flypast era aircraft………
Thanks for that info!

Paul -the Wigan machine was XE998 and ended up going to Ken Fern, then Wisbech and it settled at Brooklands painted up in Swiss markings ‘U-1215’ before heading off again to the new museum at Farnborough.

Also, the Air Training Corps used to have a complete Vampire in the yard at Newtown in Wigan well into the 1980’s. My dad used to work at BAe Lostock with the guy who ran it and he claims that he was offered it for £300!!!!!!
Pity he did’nt buy it, our garden was big and accesible enough too!
Does anyone know what happened to her? I hope she was’nt scrapped. I think the fuselage prefix was XD????

Swinderby Lightning
the Lighnting is now safe and sound with those nice people at Norfolk and Suffolk Air Museum at Flixton. Vampire duno’ try the new Ian Allan Military ABC book.
Swinderby also had a Gnat on the fire dump in poor condition and a very good looking Canberra B(I)8, this rare mark was scrapped , was the cockpit saved ?

Thanks for that David.
To add another Vampire to the ‘where are they now?’ list, RAF Swinderby’s gate guardian? Also seem to recall that they had a Lightning tucked away in the drill hangar 1989 / 90, wonder what became of that?
By: anneorac - 1st April 2003 at 08:35
Hang about. I’ve just seen a reference to it being at the Musse Europeen De L’Aviation De Chasse, Montelimar, France during 1998.
Can anyone add anything.

The Vampire T.11 at Cosford would have been XD613 which was still around in the mid 80’s. Don’t know what happened to it though.

Doncaster…ah yes…silly me!

That’s triggered a memory. One of the first aircraft I ever saw closely was a Vampire in the ATC compound in Hertford, around ’57 or ’58 I imagine. I seem to remember that virtually disintegrated on-site so can’t imagine it survived.
About the same time I went to my first air show, at Bassingbourn.
The photographs that my Dad took there are around somewhere, must set my Mum on searching for them, before I forget again.

Does anyone know what became of the Vampire that used to be on the parade ground at R.A.F. Cosford.? I remember it from an A.T.C. summer camp in 1976.
By: David Burke - 31st March 2003 at 18:44
Steve – she is now at Aeroventure (Doncaster) on display inside
in quite good condition.

Cheers Anne. That’ll be the one, although I’m slightly concerned at how long ago it was. Showing my age now I think…! 😮

There used to be a Vampire T.11 at Knebworth House. It was a composite with most of it coming from XE935 and one wing from XE985. It move to Hitchen in 1977 to join 1066 sqdn ATC then moved to Sywell and then Sibson where, as far as I know, it was scrapped.
