Vampire looking for new home.

A Vampire T11 urgently needs a new home in the next fortnight.

The aircraft is presently disassembled and stored at RAF Leeming, Yorkshire. It is minus its engine, but has a complete cockpit.

The owner is willing to put it out on long term loan, as he has done with some of his cockpits. He may also be able to assist in re-assembling the aircraft. Because of the wooden cockpit tub it will have to be displayed under cover

If anyone is seriously interested, please PM me and I will forward contact details.

there is interest in it at brunty especially if he were to progress to running condition there is limited undercover availability, but it might fit next to the gnat or starfighter that are currently in the two rubb hangers being restored

It would need a new pod or one in very good condition for a potential ground runner and this one sadly definately has the benifit of either in fact there is not very much of it worth salvaging from what I can gather as the outdoors got the better of it over many years.

I believe the owner has ‘had one cockpit moved for him’ from Bruntingthorpe in the past!

Hi Guys

I think the Vampire still needs a home. Sadly we have the space and it can come to us but our Landlord insists on a rent contribution for anything we bring into the site which I suppose is only fair but the owner of the Vampire is unable to make any such contribution and has even made a suggestion that as metal is currently at a good price he may scrap it which would be a shame and sadly as we have a full T 11 and we have access to a full T11 fuselage we are not in the position to buy it from KF

I hope the situation is resolved ahppily in times

Sorry it look slike we are unable to help.

R

Do you know where the flight sim company is in Ripon David? I live here and I can’t find them! When I spoke to that chap in the market place last year he said he was getiing a complete Vampire in exchange for refurbishing a Spitfire for. I think, Dumfries and Galloway museum.
Jim

Hi just toi clarify a bit of confusion.
Howard Whiting who has the Simulator company at Ripon works with us.He currently has XD606,A very nice 2 seat fighter cockpit (cant remmeber what it is)and a 727 crew trainer.
We have the Dumfries and Galloway Spitfire in our workshops between Ripon and Leeming as well as a flying flea,A Soko Kraguj Ground attack aircraft at our other site at Borough bridge and our Vampire T11 shortly arriving in stages from North of the Border. As well as a few other odds and ends. And the components ready to start build on a griffon Spitfire once some space in the workshop becomes available..

anyone want to contact me direct can do so

Hi Jim , no I don’t know where they are based . I saw their Vampire rigged up at the Sherburn-In-Elmet fly-in last September and they appear to use a laptop sat on top of the flying control panel with a black cover draped over the cockpit !
I suspect that the ‘chap’ you spoke to was Firebex who did an excellent job with the RBL Spitfire replica only to have the undercarriage of it pulled from under him ?

The last time I saw WZ557 was in February 2010 when she was stored at Gatenby near Leeming after spending many years outside at Chop Gate , North Yorkshire . I believe four of the owners other cockpits are displayed with the Highland Aviation Museum at Inverness but that his Vulcan XH563 still ‘lives’ in North Yorkshire ?
Regards Post#5 she flew with 16 Squadron at Celle and 5 FTS at Oakington and for Post#6 the Ripon Flight Sim company have XD602 which was previously with Karl Edmondson in South Shields until he sold it last year .

Just been speaking to Howard who is connected with the Simulators apparantly we got approached about 8 weeks ago re this aircraft by two different people and we said YES both times the aircraft could be stored where we are safely and the contact details got passed back down the line for the owner to come back to us so we could help him.

As we are only 4 miles away as the crow flies and have lots of equipment and access to trailers etc. To date we have had no response.

So at a bit of a loss the approach was made to us we said yes and nothing more.We can only assume the owner wants to now place the aircraft with a museum .But if anyone has direct contact with him if as has been suggested the move is urgent and he needs somewhere in the next two weeks then you have the details come back to us.

Surprised after all the hassle with the station commander over none RAF aircraft being on station that it has been allowed in.Thats why we had to move workshops.

If he is desperately stuck we are 3 miles up the road we DO HAVE a vampire T11 of our own as well as the cockpit of XD606 living temorraily with us.

PM me if stuck

Vampire looking for a new home

The Vampire is WZ557. The owner has its full history including a tragic accident where a fitter set off one of the ejection seats.

The owner is an aircraft enthusiast who started restoring cockpits and aircraft, before the prices started getting silly. Our museum has had three of his cockpits on loan for several years, and have just renewed our loan agreement. Unfortunately we could not put the Vampire under cover, otherwise I would have nabbed it for our museum.
