Hi,
Talking to a chap at work today and found out he used to be a photographer in the RAF and used to get flights in Venoms. He used to be out in the Far East. Got me thinking ! What are the differences between the Vampire and Venom ?
Over to you chaps ! 😀

Yes NF3 and FB4 were revised but both were different! In fact, all the booms are essentially the same, but have different fairings on the leading edges.

Bruce,
When you say Mk.3 are you referring to the NF3 and subsequent FAW versions?
Cheers,
Tom.

Sorry point taken, getting my Engine makers mixed up in the excitement

F.15/49 – DH.112 Venom was the successor to the Vampire. Generally similar in layout to the Vampire however the wing was re-designed with thinner section and straight trailing edge and new tanks were fitted to the wing tips. The engine was the RR Ghost.
Try de Havilland Ghost. 🙂

Venom
Snakeman, your friend may be mistaken,or it may be the way you wrote; the RAF Venoms in the FE were 28,45,60 Sqdn, FB1`s & 4`s, single seaters; Don`t think any NF2& 3 were there……more likely he flew in a T11 Vamp, usually the Sqdn hack/trainer………unless he flew in NF Venoms in UK/Germany/ or he was a pilot first ,photog. second…Syc.

Biggest difference was the Venom’s all new high speed swept wing. It also had a redesigned tail unit, more powerful engine, hydraulically operated ailerons, tip tanks and revised cockpit layout. Performance was much improved in all areas over the Vampire.
