All, I hope you can help me answer a question which has been put to us about the equipment which would have been housed in the radio Workstation in ‘our’ Varsity.
Whilst we have comprehensive photos of the navigators workstation in WJ897, we have none of the radio operators, nor do we have any documents telling us what equipment would have been there, either in service or after it had been sold to the LAPG.
We’ve heard of the R1155/T1154 HF combination radio being fitted in Varsities, which apparently needed its aerial to be cranked out of the aircraft through a tube to trail externally.
We’ve also got some photos of the workstation in WF369 at Newark, but don’t know what these enigmatic black boxes are! Can anyone help?
