What a pity – sorry to see them go so quickly.

Very sad news indeed. I was almost booked on to fly with them yesterday to fly to Berlin but luckily ended up on KLM instead. At least Ryanair have expanded their presence at NRN quite dramatically in recent weeks. Wouldn’t be suprised if they opened a base there.

Well I´m not surprised. I asked a friend from DUS why they don´t have any lo-cos (Air Berlin is not real Low Cost Airline) from there. And he said. We will wait till we know which will survive.

I wonder how long Ryan will have success in Germany. Operating from Hahn and NRN.

That’s a damn shame… perhaps not much of a surprise… but a shame nonetheless. My flight with them may have gone bad, but I did see potential. But from NRN attracting large crowds was always gonna be hard.

The same company owning VBird owns NRN airport. I wonder what will happen with that airport. Without VBird NRN looses something like 80% or 90% of flights and destinations. Only Ryanair is left flying daily and a charter comes in once every blue moon.

The lo-co bloodbath has begun in my opinion!
They messed up big time at MAN, 1st the V Bird ops was created, so that people could connect to MUC and CPH for knock down prices, instead of using SAS or LH, but they changed the times around and in the end they didn’t connect with each other, so that meant who from the northwest would just wanna fly to Neiderrhein alone!
Whcih lo-co is next to go?

V Bird stops all flights until further notice
Dutch low-cost operator unded with immediate effect

At 04:30 this morning the Dutch low-cost operator V Bird decided to stop flight operations.

A passenger hotline will be made available during the morning to provide further details.

On Friday afternoon, 8th Oct 2004, the management will be available at the administration offices located at V BIRD Verwaltung,Horsterweg 18a, NL-6199 AC Maastricht Airport to explain the facts to the media.

The announced press conference has been postponed to an undisclosed timing later in the afternoon. Further information will follow.

The Airport Düsseldorf – Weeze
provides a hotline under following numbers:

02837-66 61 11 und 0221-96 37 28 55

Article taken from Pprune.

Very sad, they had a very nice livery and seemed to offer a good product. I suppose NRN is a long way away from anywhere to base a LCC, and they struggled with the load factors.
