Is this the same girl here at Biggin Hill in 2010?
The one in that video is XV106 ‘W’, VC10 C1K. That airframe has been cut up at Bruntingthorpe sometime around August 2013. The one at Dunsfold is ZA150, a VC10 K3.

Its a double edged sword ! The ideal situation is how the Lightnings at Bruntingthorpe are kept. If significant money is spent on ground taxying without any future thought to hangarage it slows deterioration but still means corrosion will win.

Keeping something alive is the best form of preservation.
Machines soon deteriorate when not powered up.

A fair acreage of flaps and airbrakes, so quite a sporting capability on short runways etc I would think.

I believe the plan is to keep her live (as they did with the Vanguard for many years) and taxi her if possible.
I should contact the volunteer coordinator at the museum. I know there is a small team that looks after the
one at the museum.

Also probably the only aircraft to be the lead for a song.

I hope they don’t stretch them too much ! I should imagine a ‘light’ VC-10 would quite happily try to go back into its natural habitat!
By: Archer - 31st December 2013 at 15:59
Not sure but I thought she was going to eventually be taken apart and moved to Brookland’s?
The plan right now is to keep her at Dunsfold for the foreseeable future and indeed she will stay live. There were some race cars on the runway during this run, otherwise she would have stretched her legs a bit more. 😉
By: David Burke - 31st December 2013 at 15:22
I guess she will stay at Dunsfold until the land becomes too tempting for the developers to turn into houses!
By: Peter - 31st December 2013 at 14:53
Yes it is the one at Dunsfold. She was moved under power to keep the tires in good trim. Not sure but I thought she was going to eventually be taken apart and moved to Brookland’s?

Yes EAA…this was 5H-MOG

Does anyone know if the aircraft is to be kept live? I’d be interested in volunteering if it is.
I thought it was going to have its engines removed?

RAF Transport Command Schemes are the best…

What this grand old lady really needs is a new nose cone and returned to BOAC Livery.

To blow some warm air towards Brooklands and help to dry it out.

Such a good looking aircraft……. do we know what the object of the exercise was?

No, it will be Dunsfold if it depicts ZA150.
