Just caught this news on the BBC local radio – more details here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-24929936
Nice capture – I guess like me you’re not at the BAPC Meeting today! 😀
I’ve just read the full news item, so please don’t all rush to the Aeropark today on account of my post and cause any of the traffic problems that they’re trying to avoid!! 😮
It’s well worth a visit at other times!

Having flown in this very aircraft on many occasions I look forward to visiting it.

Yes, due to the size of the vc10, maintenence to the engines and tail fin/plane would be quite difficult, we have a cherry picker to hand, but even that would not be enough to reach to the very top, its a great shame really as the back end is the more iconic part of the aircraft, but hey-ho, its just great that we have secured a short piece of her from the crusher for people to admire!!
Yup you would need the likes of a search to get up top and a normal giraffe to access the top of the engines, APU and fuselage. you would also want to be able to move the flying controls, we would angle the tail nose down to help prevent snow build up during winter months.

Well done for managing to save at least part of one! I look forward to seeing it next time I make the trek down…

re;
Well done to Aeropark – I’d imagine preserving a whole VC-10 would be difficult for a small musem due to the high set tail and engines
As a museum volunteer myself all I can say is well done! She will make a great hands on exhibit…

You have enough there to fit the cabin out with the VIP or Royal fit, as that finished just fwd of the centre cabin door, the hangers on sat up the back aft of the door on standard pax seats 😉
What it could do with is a nice white and grey over royal blue cheat line scheme 😀

we’ve now replaced all the windows and most of the interior panelling, next we’ve got to put a galley in place and finish tidying the interior before starting to clean up the exterior.

The Buccaneer is now next to the Romney, and it is sad to see only part saved but we moved as much as we could and thanks to Garry for agreeing to it.

I’ll have to pop up and see it as I live in the village and used to work on her in the RAF.

So sad. It’s a bit like seeing a fox or deer head mounted as a hunting trophy.

We had taken the windows out to help strap it down on the vehicle which have put back today , also we have the wing leading edge fairing nose wheel and probe to refit.

We did not have space and more important manpower to maintain it complete, also the cost of getting from the airport to the Aeropark would be massive the same as the Nimrod.

According to the press comment in the link in the OP – they didn’t have the space to take the whole airframe!

Congratutions for aquiring XV108, exactly how much has been delivered to East Midlands, have you got tails and engines ? Seems totally mad that XV108 could not have been flown to East Midlands and spares recovered there, then a whole aircraft could be preserved.

There is still talk of BOB being roaded to Cosford, 1 other at brunty to be kept live and join their collection. I suspect the 3rd will face the axe.
