VC10 (recent UK newspaper article)

I saw an article in last weeks Mirror (I think) which was going on about “how antiquated the VC10 is”. It was saying how crews refuse to take their families on ‘jollies’ as they say it is dangerous. This, I don’t believe, but is it true that they can no longer use LHR as the nav aids on board are incompatible? I saw one at Manchester airport a year or so ago, so is this true or is it the usual ill-informed tabloid pap?
